    Ncis

Is anyone currently going through the NCIS process that can give me any advice? I just completed the forms from the website and I put in a transcript with it from college. In the FAQs on the website, it says you can put a transcript in if your GPA was higher than 3.0, so I figured it couldn't hurt me could it? I know I will have to provide more later on also, but I need all the help I can get in the beginning. I only have a B.S., not an advanced degree, so I figure that will hurt me, as it looks like NCIS prefers advanced degrees. The most they can do is tell me no though. Do they notify you if you are no longer being considered? I did put down my stupid mistake from October 2004 where I inhaled smoke out of an aluminum can (marijuana smoke). This was my first and last time ever for any kind of drugs. However, it was very recent and I was 26 years old....not good. Impossible though?

    Thanks for any responses!

If you read most disqualifiers for fed/police agencies, it says MJ in the past 3 years or more than for experimentation purposes...so honestly it does not look good for you, but I could be wrong. Good luck anyhow!

Yes, I know the FBI is 3 years, but they are not all 3 years. I have a buddy who is an agent in VA and he said that even the FBI is considering changing the policy because they are losing a lot of good agents to other agencies. I've noticed a lot of policies are not published on websites. The CIA (which I know is not federal law enforcement) is 365 days. I didn't learn that until they called me for an interview back in January. I was honest with the lady and she said to apply again once the 365 days has cleared because I had a strong resume. Has anyone else applied to the CIA on the board. Again, I know it is not law enforcement, but I figure a lot of people on the board might still like the CIA type of work also. Thanks for your input ASU!

NCIS is 3 years no MJ use/no more than 15 times in your lifetime. Same as FBI policy. I interned there for 2 summers, and this was in our application (which is based upon SA guidelines).

Just let the time go by and 1 time usage should not be a problem.

Just to add, while NCIS does like SA applicants to have advanced degrees, but also real-world experience. I applied to them when I was in grad school shortly before I graduated (prior to working fullt-time in a position other than internships), and was not among the most qualified. It seems that NCIS looks for those with the proper balance of experience AND education.

Keep in mind that if they tell you know based on them having more qualified applicants, you only have to wait a year from the time you sent in your application to reapply. For me, the one-year period comes to an end at the end of next week.

Thanks ROS. So if the agencies say no because there are more qualified apps, you have to wait a year to reapply? Is that a standard rule? I guess they would get tired of someone continuously submitting a package week after week, hehe.

With the FLE agencies I've applied with, the one-year rule applies. I've applied for SA positions with three agencies (NCIS, AFOSI and DSS), and each had this rule. I've also interned with USSS, and am pretty certain they have the same rule for their SA positions too.

I can vouch for the USSS process. You have to wait (at least) 1 year before re-applying. This seems pretty much across the board for most of the Fed govt.

    cignaguy:
No problem, this board is for "Federal Questions" not just Federal LE. I applied for a CIA SPO position 2 years ago. Submitted my app. electronically via their website...Haven't heard a peep. At least the NSA sent me a "thanks but no thanks letter" for their 0083 position. :(

Same thing when I applied for the NCIS around the same time. Got a quick "not interested in you" letter. I think because the agency is so small they are REALLY picky.

About your admitted drug use, it's good you were honest. It shows integrity; you need that for LE (applying & in your career). Look at it this way, 6 months have already passed. Just stay out of trouble for the next 6 more months!

Thanks again guys. Yeah, I have applied to CIA a couple of times, only about 4 months in between times. The first time, I applied and they called about a month later to set up an interview. HOwever, I realized after applying that I could not really just pick up and move because I only had my house about 6 months so I needed to stay in Denver a little longer. A few months later, I applied again online and again got a call about a month later. She asked why I didn't follow up with the process the first time. And I gave her the same exact reason, about not being able to move after I had thought about it. So she started asking me questions and then came across the dreaded "have you been clean for 365 days?" And then I said no, and that is a big thing I wanted to find out is your drug policy. She said the policy is clean for 365 days. The position I was applying for was SOO (Staff Operations Officer). It looked to me like a pretty neat position, based in D.C. I don't know any foreign languages though and I don't know a ton about foreign relations, but I can learn! She told me to read all I could about the CIA and gave me a list of books to read. She was very nice.

Anyhoo, sorry for the long winded post. Now back to the Nuggets game!!

KittyDad loooves Ms. Bell, and all the gals on NCIS. For obvious genetic reasons, I look at Mark Harmon.
