In applying for a FLE job, does it matter whatsoever if you earn a degree from a religiously affiliated school (Christian), or from a state university?
I doubt it, but thought I'd ask.

I don't think it matters the institution so much as the accrediation that the school has. SE Tennessee huh? Are you at Carson-Newman in Jefferson City?

No, but I am reasonably nearby. Did you attend there? I have talked to one or two students who studied there, and they seemed to like it very well.
I'm at UT right now, but was considering transfering to Lee University (Cleveland) after military time.

Just thought I'd say hi, born and raised in Cleveland, Tennessee about a mile from Lee. I graduated from UT Chattanooga in 2000. I live in Denver now though. Anyhoo, just thought it was interesting to see little Cleveland mentioned on here!

As long as they are accredited , no.

To ellaborate a bit further, for federal and military positions, a degree must either hold national or regional accreditation. Both accreditations are recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education, and that's what matters. The difference between the school is regionally accredited schools are generally of a higher degree of rigor and quality (ex: state univerities), where as nationally accredited schools are often private, even for-profit, schools. Some LE jobs require a regionally accredited degree (SBI for NC comes to mind), but the federal government will accept either of the two.Originally Posted by K-9MALY

Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice.
My new hero!
Thank you ROS! There was a discussion last week which went in depth on the online school issue as well, lots of good information there. By the way, I did go to Carson-Newman for 1 year. Thought I could play college football for some reason, but ended up getting the stuffing knocked outta me for all my efforts.
