Does anyone know how the Mint Police are treated?
Are they treated well by their management?
Is their equipment issued, do they wear their weapons and uniforms to and
from work?
What local laws do they enforce?
Thanks

U.S. Mint Police do attend the mixed police basic training program (MPBTP) at FLETC. They have good gear, which is issued to them. But be aware that they are VERY security oriented. Don't expect to be making very many arrests or doing lots, if any, car stops. They may hold limited peace officer status or operate under a MOA with the local police, depending upon the jurisdiction their facility is located in. Regardless, it is security oriented, with a police title. As a side note, once you have completed the MPBTP at FLETC, you are more attractive of a candidate for other federal police jobs, should you choose to apply for them.
Roger that, thanks for the info, I would like to have the MBP on my resume![]()
Where I live the Mint Police are uniformed, drive police cars and patrol around the mint. They do traffic stops around the mint, etc. I have talked with 2 mint police officers and both loved what they did.
It seems like they have continuous recruiting, Usually when an agency has high attrition like that it’s either
1 Low pay
2 Poor treatment
and I know that their pay is pretty good.?
There is also another possibility, it's probable that a lot of their officers are using the job as a stepping stone to other positions.
True ! if they are giving them excellent training and not giving them any reason to stay...guess what
Actually, I haven't seen an open annoucement for Mint positions on usajobs.com for a while, so I'm not sure about their attrition rate. I saw a few of them in Denver at a security post. They seemed happy & content, not unlike the lonely USPP officer standing watch at the Lincoln Memorial when I was in DC a couple summers ago.
Just my observation...
According to their website, the Mint Police SRT deploys for national security events such as presidential inaugurations, Republican national convention, etc.
Pay starts around 35k. Here is a link to apply.

truthkjv: if you want a good federal police job, join the US Forest Service.
I would have to second that. Forest Service LEO's perform a wide variety of LE activities. They do much more 'police' type work than the U.S. Mint Police
So you would rather be lazy?![]()
Stepping stone.....sounds familiar. Just like the VA!

Regardless of what agency people apply for, be sure to look beyond the department/agency website. Anybody can make even the worst or smallest agency/department look like the hottest thing since sliced bread on the internet. I saw a VERY (and I mean VERY) rural sheriff's department that set up a website which made it look like it had hundreds of deputies and every kind of imaginable division in the world. It had a aero unit, dive unit, you name it (no joke). But when you looked between the lines, you found out that the department only had three officers total.
