Retired LEOs are almost exclusively hired to the Court Security Officer position (CSO)... the guys in navy sport coats and gray pants that guard the doors. We don't contract out for protection.
Some districts may still contract out for "guards". In my distrcit, they used to use LEOs (current, sworn LEOs) to help on busy days when they were really short on people. These "guards' would help with transport WITH a USMS person and assist USMS personnel in court. They are not permitted to work without a USMS person present. We no longer do this. Some districts may. I beleive, in the past, some districts contracted with security agencies for this. Even in these cases, I think they were mostly current LEO with a sprinkling of retirees.... depending on the district.
