    FBI's Color vision test

hey, I found out I was color-blind about 4 years ago when I took the ishiara(sp?) color vision test, the one with read the numbers from the circle of dots. I was super depressed but about 6 months ago an eye doctor here in Brooklyn fitted me for some contact lenses that help you distort these colors properly to see the numbers, and low and behold, they worked for me 100%. Does anyone here know if I would be allowed to use these for this test? Thanks in advance.

Best bet would be to call the FBI medical staff and find out if that's an option.

    Hey BigMac:
What kind of contacts are these? I've never heard of them. Are they new? I'm color vision deficient as well. I can't pass that Ishihara dots test either. I initially failed that portion of my pre-employment medical exam for legacy US Customs several years ago (I also failed that test at MEPS for the military). I had to take an alternative color vision test (Lanthony D-15 Hue) to finally get into Customs. Back then, Customs was still under Treasury & I don't know if other departments (Justice, DHS, etc) offer that alternative color vision test.

But things have changed; I remember when the FBI didn't accept LASIK applicants. Of course, they've wised up & now they do.

I don't see where they could DQ you for wearing contacts. Lots of people wear contacts. As long as you can pass the test with them on, I can't see where it would be a problem. I have night blindness which most green-eyed people do. I have contacts to combat this, as well. I can't see doodly squat at night without them. Before I got the contacts, my DL said I could not drive at night but now that I have them that's changed back to normal.

We have a minimum standard of uncorrected vision as well as corrected. It's fairly high, I think about 20-200, but there is a bottom line on it.

I dunno if they would make an exception for color blindness or not, but probably.

Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Take this test, you'd be surprised how many people have problems and don't know it.

    Cool link.

Yeah, I got the first number. THAT'S it. I don't need no test to snubfully remind me how color vision deficient I am. Damn, I guess my "Top Gun" dream is outta reach! :p

    tunlrat,
I PM'ed you, but then I found this at the fbijobs site...you are correct sir...dang!!! I went through the FBI process back in the late 90's and then got out of a local PD and decided to leave LE altogether. I thought I could never try for the FBI again because of my eyesight now, but I was wrong. I am getting close to 37 though. Do you know if a 4 yr military career can be tacted on as a waiver? I am still only 35 but I don't know if I could get surgery and re-apply/background all in time? I don't even know if I would want to pursue it again, but man it is making me think now!

Will having laser surgery or uncorrected vision disqualify me from applying for the Special Agent position?
An applicant must wait one year from the date of surgery and then have the results of the procedure and the recovery of the eye tissue certified.
    10-7....for now

Not sure what to tell you, except maybe you should apply this instant! Seriously, if you don't think you can make the 37 age cutoff, you may want to consider getting a Fed job that has the now famous "6c" retirement so you can stop the clock & still be able to apply for 1811 jobs. USSS UD, Capitol Police, to name a few. And the Boppers are always hiring (harumph...)!

Sorry for the late reply, the lenses are called Chromagen lenses, ask your eye doctor about them. They don't work for everyone but I was told they work for an overwhelming majority. Goodluck.

The million dollar question is can you use them during a pre-employment medical exam for a Federal job?

I know some Police Departments allow them for the exam, still haven't gotten a clear answer from the FBI.
