how would someone become an IS? fbijobs says you basically need a 4 year degree. what are the requirements to be competitive in the application process (masters degree, military exp, foreign language proficiency). I have a BS degree in EE and work in private practice, but am looking for a career change. how would i stack up against people with prior LE exp?

Actually Mike, you probably stand a very good chance. Since this position is 90% field work involving strictly survaillence prior LE or military experience isnt a big factor. As long as you interview well, have a clean background and dont mind sitting in a car or watching a house for extended periods of time I would fill out the application. I would check what the pay scale though, the last time I looked it was a little low but you also have to figure in locality pay.

Um, what's EE? Anyway, yeah, you never know until you apply. Your bachelor's right away qualifies you in the intial stages. Don't worry about not having LE or military exp. They (the Feds in general) usually don't ask LE/ military specific questions during panel interviews. That wouldn't be fair to all applicants. Just be able to somehow relate to their questions using ALL of your past experience (work, college, life) & you'll be good to go. In fact, we have a bunch of posters going through the process now. You may want to pm them. Good luck!
