FBI Applicant Issues

I have applied for a position with the FBI... was picked as top choice and sent through background. I have been in background since about July 04. They said everything looked good, I do not have anything bad in my personal past except for credit.. had some bad times in college with is, but it is all fixed now and they even commented on my turn around with it. The only thing I am scared may hurt me is my sister. She is a convicted felon and is still getting into trouble (non-violent). I on the other hand am the good daughter and have never gotten more than a speeding ticket like 8 years ago. I thought all was complete but they called last week wanting info on my sisters ex-husband (also a trouble maker). She is my only sister, and my parents are great... dad is retired LE. How much do you think this is going to hurt me. Other than them wanting this information everything is done... poly, tests, everything. Could I get DQ'd because of her past?

Your family's character is not held against you in any background investigation that I am aware of. You can't pick your family.

I thought you were through the whole process... sorry to hear they now want more information. My brother had been arrested previously many years ago. The FBI didn't seem to worry to much about it. Granted he is an upstanding citizen now. Hopefully they will not DQ you over something your sister did. I don't see it as a problem but then again with the FBI you just never know. I would just provide whatever information they ask for... I found that the more upfront you are the better they seem to like it. I wouldn't worry to much about it since obviously you were not involved in what they did. Good luck and keep me posted on any developments.

Yep.. I was all done just waiting on the start letter till DC called and wanted this other info. I keep hoping it is not going to hurt me... but if it isn't I do not understand why they needed more info.

Don't lose sleep over that. You should not be DQ because of what your sister did. I personally know a DEA applicant whose brother was a convicted felon with a lengthy drug history. He was still hired on as a DEA Agent.
