First of all, know that I am not big on the personnel side of things. I have to say that the Service, for one reason or another, has this happening a lot. Sadly, it's a fact of life. Generally speaking, it is really not that uncommon in the fed system... funding is very dynamic. I will say that generally, most of us get a few weeks notice and that is it. Your current empolyer has got to have some idea this is coming down the pipe. It very well may come down to giving them 2 weeks and that is it.
Sorry... it's the way it goes. I know a guy in my academy class that, due to a late cancellation, was given less than a week's notice. I know another that decided to wait, rather than taking short notice and waited 8 months for another academy. Pick your priorities and be ready to make the decision.
Good luck.
