I just went down to D.C. to visit some family, and to show my girlfriend what it is I hope to be doing when I get done w/ all my schooling. We did some siteseeing and then we drove and went downtown a few days just to show her UD USCP and PFPA. At any rate I developed a few questions and I'm sure DC and Cecil will help me out.
Who has jurisdiction over GW Parkway, I drove on this once as I was leaving from my grandmother's who lives in McLean. I didn't see a single cop (marked) in my travels. Is it on federal property, and is it solely the responsibility of your agency (USPP)... to DC of course!!
And I visited the very moving Holocaust museum for a few times in a few year. I had seen some people wearing this uniform by the Customs headquarters, but there were a lot of them in the Holocaust. These people looked like security guards, had cheap hats, some of them wore them to the sides. Their badges said "Special Police, and in between the two Security. The ones who had exposed duty belts were armed. I didn't know if they were police officers or security guards. Another thing that confused me was an individual who was in the exhibit. He was in civilian clothes had a very noticeable bulge. He was with his family, and as I came closer to him I noticed a green credential issued by the facility that read LE. I was under the impression that very few people could carry a weapon in DC even if you were a LEO. It was obviously legit, because he proceeded to go into a back room with a Police/security guard. I didn't think many could off-duty carry, esp in a federal building in DC.
And on a side note, I visited WWII memorial for the fourth time now since June, and it still leaves me breathless. This was the first time I had seen it at night however and it is a completely different thing. What a great job all the LE agencies do down there. I have a better eye for these things than many so I can see a substantial amount of LE activity, so I always felt safe. They don't seem obtrusive or intrusive in their vigilance to provide proper security and protection of the nation's capital. I think a great balance has occurred, so I tip my hat off to you DC and your fellow brothers in sisters in your agency in particular. Hope some day I can join you in a sister agency.
