    Envelope sealed...no letter??

Hey everyone. I have a story and a question to tell.

My cousin sent me a letter and a picture of herself in an envelope on thursday, December 23rd. I just received it today on December 30th. She lives in Apple Valley, MN. She has a stamp and return address and my address on it, like any other envelope would. When i got it i noticed it seemed pretty thin and nothing seemed to be in there. So i opened it and there was NOT a damn thing in there. No letter, No picture. Just Air.

When I opened i was really really really confused. I just thought she was playing around, like a teenage girl would do just for fun. But when I talked to her, she was really worried. Some of you might think she's lieing and all.

But is there any kind of way the mail service could have opened the envelope, seal it back up and not have the letter and everything in there with out me realize it? Is there anything I can do about this? I'm pretty worried myself about it, because there was some personall stuff on that letter and also a photo of her.

I dont know if any of you have the awnsers im looking for. But any advice or any comment would be pleased.

Oh yes there is definatly ways to get the items out without you knowing. We do it sometimes. However, as far as "the postal service" doing it that's not likely, unless it was narcotics or other illegal items. If the government were to keep something like that you would know. It sounds more like an individual thought it would be a nice picture for them to have. Kinda wierd, I agree. If your sure she enclosed the items and its not there you could always tell your postal inspector, however being its a picture and letter and not a check or anything I cannt guess at how hard they will look into it, they have a lot of other more serious mail fraud type issues too. Good luck

Well, i mean damn. If the postal service did open it, wouldnt they have to put some kind of ink stamp showing they opened it. The thing that confuses me, is there isnt no kind of wear or tear on it at all. The only thing i see on it, is a black smug on the back. looks like a finger print but more like kind of dirty fingers touches it. and left a smug. I'm going to try to find out if i can do anything about it.

    Thanks everyone.

If you suspect the letter was tampered with, then notify your local Postal Inspection Service and make a complaint. USPS can not open a letter without a federal search warrant unless the letter contains something dangerous. If it had been opened under exigent circumstances then you would have been notified or it would have a stamp to indicate it was opened. The smudges you wrote about can be just processing marks left by the machines that sort mail.

    Who knows what happened.

I could open and reseal an envelope no problem. I think your "cousin" *snicker* got embaressed and didnt send the nekkid pictures you asked for. :D

Seriously, file a complaint with the postal inspecter if you think it has been tampered with.

Hey Adam, there are several ways to open/reseal an envelope. None of which I'll post, since nobody else did... Ask your mailman next time you see him, maybe the picture is hanging up by his mirror, taped to his little tree air freshener!! j/k!! :D Seriously, it sounds like nothing more than human error on your cousins behalf!!

EW, YUCK... But hey, if the 2nd cousin thing will fly where you're at, more power to ya I suppose... :p

On a sidenote, Glamour Shots are still around? Do they still make everyone look like they're stuck in the 80's and 10 years older?
