Hey guys, I want to say that I'm sorry for posting this:
I think Switchback hit the nail when he pointed out that this statement was made in ignorance. I visit a lot of gun forums and that (my statement) just seems to be the word about the ATF. To tell you the truth, I've never even heard from them what makes them think what they do about the ATF. I admit that it is stupid to compare any person or orginization to the Gestapo without due reaserch and evidence. From what I hear, the ATF is not really a private gun owner friendly organization. I have even heard them called the "American Gestapo". That's a bit exteme, but I would still keep my distance.
I am not exacly sure why I said what I said. I think it may be a combination of things. I do love this country and the freedoms that define it. In my 18 years, I have seen a big increase in gun control as well as infringments and/or distortions of various Constitutional Rights. I guess I am a bit on edge and looking for people to blame; maybe that's why I accepted those other guy's opinions so readily. I don't expect that to get me off the hook and admit that any way you look at it, it mostly boils down to ignorance on my part. To those whose opnions of the ATF may have been influenced by my statement, I say again: It was not based upon any evidence or facts to my knowledge.
I am sorry that I have made this impressions on you guys. I will try to clear it up a bit. First of all, I actually want to go into federal law enforcement. I have great respect for LEOs as well as our troops. It is my understanding that they keep us safe that makes me want to both join them as well as think twice before degrading them.
Again I say that I am sincerely sorry for what I said. I do not expect this post to make things all better - I understand that there will still be some animosity, but here it is regardless. I am not at all trying to suck up, I just sincerely think this needed to be said and I would have said this all much sooner had I been aware of the situation.
Thanks,
Chris
