I had the chance to spend the day with two NYS park police officers recently, that worked snowmobile patrol. From what I gathered, it is a decently fun job, but like any LE job, stress is a package that comes with it. The jobs vary, from citing people for violating park rules, to putting out sleds that catch on fire, a story one of the guys told me. Another story was removing the mangled body of a guy that decided to jump off the falls here at our park. Problem was, there is a electrical turbine, and he got sucked in and ground to hamguger. They removed his body from the falls. Their job is the state parks, not the highways. The troopers, sheriff's and municipal police take care of the roads. The guys I was with did stop a car with a few teens for overdoing it on the speed. The officers were going to Micky D's and nabbed them. They don't sit on the interstate with the radar on. Most depts have snowmobiles, ATV's, SUV's ( Dodge Durango is a favorite seems) and cars, so you aren't neccesarily stuck in a cruiser all day. All in all, if you want to work in the parks, and are concerned about the environment and safety of the people in the parks, it's a good job for you. Good luck
One of our mods is a USPP officer. He will be along shortly to answer you questions. Check back soon.

I occassionally see a US Park Police car around the Wall Street area. It is usually parked outside of Federal Hall across the street for the New York Stock Exchange. However, I have never seen an officer.
See, what did I tell ya. :D
