Just curious. I took the written exam in march 04 and passed. I have not heard anything else from them. Does it usually take them this long? Just glad I got hired by my county PD instead.

Nine months is a bit long to hear nothing, so if you're still in the application process, I'd suggest contact the office you tested with to check on your status. Federal hiring process can be extremely long, so it sometimes can help if you call and remind them of your interest in the position.Originally Posted by jatty26

USBP is notorious for its VERY long process. Applicants taking over two years to get hired is pretty common. Their last annoucement was the first in awhile so I'm sure they had tons of people taking the test.

Being able to spell the agency name correctly might help.

They've got us surrounded? Good. Now we can fire in any direction, those bastards wont get away this time

If you think that's long, a bunch of us took the Immigration Enforcement Agent (IEA) test in Oct. 2003, scored relatively high (I got an 89 w/o vet's preference), and since have heard jack squat. They made it seem like they were hiring in droves too. Just stick it out in your county PD (which probably isn't a bad thing anyway) until the BP comes a callin. Good luck.
No federal agency moves fast on hiring. But, that is a long time not to hear anything good or bad. I would reach out to the recruiter and get a status update.

Thanks ChesCop, that's the reason I'm always hesitant to post here and ask for advice. Everything is always scrutinized and put under a microscope, instead of read for what it's worth and just given simple advice. Sorry BORDER PATROL.

I think posting a thread on an internet website and working a LE agency are a little different, but thanks again.

LEO's are a tough crowd. You're just being treated the way we treat each other. Mistakes in some jobs are easy to go back and fix the next day. Mistakes in law enforcement are often difficult to fix the next second.
The Border Patrol (now actually known as Customs and Border Patrol) can be a very unforgiving place to work. Might as well go ahead and toughen up now.![]()

It's not really the toughen up part I'm worried about, it is the part about answering a question that has been asked or not saying anything at all.
Question asked and answered.
This exchange is not condusive to a productive discussion. Take it to PMs.
