    Unhappy FBI hiring question

I am going through the hiring process for the FBI... I have completed everything and now I am just waiting to hear back to know if they are going to hire me or not. I am top pick for a support position. They told me I would know something by the beginning of Nov at the latest and now it is almost Dec and still no word. Anyone else go through this? How long did it take once you completed everything? Is the fact they have not decided yet a bad sign?

If you've completed all the phases, that is definitely a good sign. In the big "G," the squeaky wheel gets the grease, so I would pester (or ahem---call) somebody or anybody in the FBI FO you processed out of to get an answer or any kind of reply. If you don't get a satisfactory answer there (or no answer), pester (I mean call!) somebody in DC. Sometimes "no news is good news" isn't always true. Good luck & good huntin!

What position? I am through with everything as well... still no word. but very optimistic that I will hear something soon. My experience is that if they have no news they will not call you back.. but maybe you have better luck than I... good luck to you.

    ohhhhhh the waiting

Operations Specialist.... I see you have went for the Investigative Spec, that was my other one. They made me choose which one I wanted to continue with since I had interviews for 4 different positions at once. Now I am just waiting and waiting..... I don't know if it really takes this long or if it is a test. I feel like they have been testing me after each part. I am just ready to know. The job I am in now is not the best and I would love to transfer to another agencym I work for the state here, but I do not want to do that and then get the FBI job. It is like you have to put your life on hold until they give you that final call. Drive you nuts, but I have always wanted to work for the FBI, so I guess this is just what has to happen. I am just hoping that after all this I do not get a DQ. I call and either get no response if I leave a message, or they tell me they are still waiting on DC.

    Keep your head up !!!

Hang in there, it took me the better part of a year from test to the academy while I was applying for the FBI. Keep pestering and calling, I had a standing weekly phone call recruiter and I strongly believe that is why I got the job. It was also because of my calling that they realized they had lost some of my paperwork and that was delaying my hiring. It all worked out in the end, keep your head up !!!!! :D

At this point I have no idea what they are waiting on...I had my physical in August or September...then after a month and a half...got notice to do some followup medical stuff..which I did the first part of November... so now only a month has gone by with no response or idea of what comes next... I watch my mailbox everyday..just in case the DQ letter comes...I guess if I wait long enough i will hear something. Operations Specialist? That sounds interesting...glad you had a choice...I had only applied for IS which I am very excited about... like you...my job isn't all that grand at the moment and I am so ready to move on. Hope you hear something soon.

I finally got someone to answer the phone yesterday and they said HQ is making a decision now. Not sure how long that is going to take. They eneded up making me take the drug test twice. First because they said I missed signing one page, missed that one dotted line out of many and for that they rejected it. Took it again and had to wait 3 weeks to see if they would accept this one cause they said my pee was too clear... what was that all about? I always thought that was good, they said good for busy, bad for test. Well they decieded last week to accept it thank goodness. I have never done druggs in my life so I was upset this of all things was holding me up for almost a month.... anyway, now i am like you and sitting at the mailbox everyday waiting for a letter. Does anyone know, do they send you the letter either way or do they call if you get the position?

I hear that. Several years ago, I got to know my FedEx, UPS, & mail carrier all by first name. :D I think many of us can say the same! Not sure about the FBI, but, in general, the Feds can notify you either way or both of a solid job offer. Eventually, it does have to be in writing. Best to keep calling yourself though that way you know the soonest so you can start making the appropriate changes in your life e.g. moving, finding an apartment, etc. Keep the faith & hang in there!

I was notified by phone first that I had the job, a letter followed up about a week later.

Great... I hope I am the same way. They notified me by phone that I was top pick 3 weeks before I got that letter. I wonder if it works that way if it is a DQ letter.

Thanks for everyone's support and good luck to everyone applying and waiting.

My understanding is that they call if you are in and just send the letter if you are not. So everyday I check the mailbox...no dq letter yet... but no phone call either... it has now been a month since I did the followup stuff they requested...none of which were problems or worthy of a dq... so I have to believe that I am in and they are just waiting to figure out where to send me... who knows... information is not freeflowing.. so far everything has been accepted and ok for me... so I just don't know what they are doing. Good luck to you in your waiting...maybe we will all have a nice christmas surprise...

I can't speak for Ladibug...but I don't know yet... my understanding is that when they give you the final call that your in and advise you of training information that is when you find out where you are going... so at this point...I am completely in the dark about everything.... hoping for a good office... I have been told that the IS only operates out of big cities... that really doesn't help... what is the definition of a big city? so other than waiting for the phone to ring or the postman to deliver the bad news... I don't know anything..

Or maybe you'll ring in the New Year with a new job! Hang in there fellas, your time will come. BIg cities---SF, LA, NYC, DC, Miami, Chicago, etc., etc. Big cities has its upsides & downsides, usually more stuff do, more sights to see, sports teams, stuff like that. Big cities usually equate to high cost of living though, so be ready to pay out the nose for a tiny apt. Best to rent or buy out in the 'burbs, but then you have to fight traffic going into the city. Like I said downsides. Several of my Customs classmates got sent to far off places, like Calexico, California & Highgate Springs, Vermont (where??). The only good things I hear about small ports or field offices is that, since they're so small, you have more responsibilities & more opportunities to do stuff, like tagging along with raid teams & stuff. Of course, you guys will be support, so I kinda doubt they'll hand you an MP5 & a halligan & put you on point but you never know! But I babble... :D
