DOE Protective Force Div. Security Police Officer

    Hello all,

I'm curious if anybody out there have knowledge about Protective Force Security Police Officers for The Dept. of Energy,Specifically, CA. I was wondering what law enforcement powers can they enforce? and job description. In addition, the location is at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory operated by the University of California.

Thanks for your insight, this would be very helpful.

Welcome to the forum! I'm sure that someone will be able to answer your question is short order.

FYI, posting your question in one forum or area will be sufficient to get it answered. Cross posting will only irritate the mods.

Hey alf! How are things at the Palo Alto VA?

Not sure about your question. If they're California POST certified too then they can enforce local as well as Fed laws. That usually also equates to off duty carry. If they have only (concurrent?) jurisdiction, they can only have police powers on the Fed property only--similar to DOD & VA. Some Fed police agencies require their officers to be certified at both the state & Fed level, e.g. The Bureau of Reclamation police at the Hoover Dam. Supposedly they're Nevada & Arizona POST & Fed certified. Which I think is pretty cool.

    After reading this article: http://www.fas.org/news/usa/2002/nuc...none012302.htm

I really haven't a clue as to what kind of certification they have; state or Federal or both or none. I guess the best way to find out is to talk to an actual officer there--straight from the horse's mouth so to say. Of course, the above article is some 3 years old so hopefully there have been positive changes if what the author alleges is true.

I know a guy here in Nevada that works for them, all he does is guard 200sq miles of desert, he works at the site where the Government tested the "A" Bomb at, the place is still radioactive and somewhat classified, so they keep thrill seekers away.

Thanks tunlrat and tommygunz_us for the info.

Regarding VA Police, I'm no longer there... I'm looking into Protective Force Officers, SPO's (SRT Teams). Better training and opportunity for advancement to Special Response Teams. Something I'm striving for.

How about you, are you in? Have you found any avenues?

That's what I have heard as well. They don't get to do much, but they are trained and equipped out the yin-yang. Their SWAT for instance, while never actually having been deployed anywhere operationally to my knowledge, always places high in competitions.

I guess I can answer. I'm 2 for 2 when it comes to polys, but only 1 of those ever ended up as a final job offer. Stick to answering ONLY what he/ she asks. Don't start divulging or digressing into something else he/she DID NOT ask. I'd say this is probably the most important thing.

Also don't get into a debate as to the legalities of some issues; e.g. the "casual" downloading of mp3s & stuff--(that came back to bite me in the ***), etc. etc. Obviously be honest, be yourself (don't answer what you "think" they want to hear, & be consistent in your answers because they look for inconsistencies. Be ready for a long day. Don't be surprised when they ask you the same question several times; again consistency. They usually go over all the questions with you before you actually start so there shouldn't be any "surprising" questions. Get a good night's rest & I'd stay off the caffeine because you don't want to be too jittery. Oh, wear something warm! Being cold doesn't help you calm down & relax.

Did I mention about only answering what they ask???

Good luck dude, you'll do fine...
