    FBI question

Before asking my question let me first say that I tried doing a search using "FBI" in the search window, but I kept getting the "no results screen." I don't know if I typed it wrong or not, but I'm assuming the FBI has been brought up here before and if I am asking a question that has already been answered then I apologize. If someone could send me a link to a prior thread then that would be great.

anyway, my question is in regard to the hiring process of the FBI. I was told that you have to take a written examination which includes a math portion. This has me wary because if there is one thing I stink in, it is math. So if there is a math test, what kind of math is tested? are we talking multiplation, division and fractions or algebra and geometry? because if we are talking algebra and geomety, I won't even bother to apply. lol

also, what is the background check like? I assume there is a polygraph? anything else I should know about?

anyway, thanks in advance for any info.

The exam is a lot like a watered down version of the SAT. The background is rather thorough and it takes little to knock you out of the process. Bear in mind that there are so many applicants that they can be rather selective in their process. To make the qualifications means rather little. You need to be in the :most competitive" group.

That being said, there's no harm in applying. You will never know any other way.

After I took phase I, everyone took a 5 min break and almost everyone was complaining about how difficult the Math portion of the test. I had been reading on forum boards about how it was going to be so difficult that I actually thought it was kinda easy. You don't get enough time to complete all the questions but it wasn't that bad. The more difficult questions are Pre Calculus level.

Go on their website and download the FD-140 and that will give you an idea how difficult the background test will be.

I always thought the hard test was that one where they kept asking you stuff like "do you like to hurt yourself or other people?" :D

I took the FBI test but it was a long time ago and they may have changed it, but I remember it like Switchback and wannabetrp describe it, a kind of mini ACT or SAT test.

Is it similar to the math section on the TEA (Treasury Enforcement test)?

After taking such tests as the SAT, LSAT, & the TEA, I find that the best way to tackle those kind of standardized tests are to basically answer what you can & guess the ones you can't get to. You really don't get penalized for guessing! Anyone who has taken those tests can attest that there is no humanly way one can really read & try to solve each question.

    QUOTE]

I have never taken the TEA test but someone on another forum board mentioned that the TEA was more difficult. I can't say how accuate the post was or was not.

Our AC (Applicant Coordinator) asked everyone what their line of work was while we were sitting waiting for people to show up and most people were some kind of engineer or in the computer science field. I was surprised that they all seemed to find it difficult? Like I said earlier I was prepared for the worst so in the end it wasn't so bad...

Of course I did! Can't you tell I am wicked smart? :D

They say wait 2 weeks for the results but I recevied a call maybe 5 days later from my AC and they told me to start completing the FD-140. The letter arrived a good few days later.

Did you say pre-Calculus? Were there actual formulas that you had to solve for "x" and "y" and stuff? Wow, then that case that test is harder than the TEA. TEA math was basic high school math problems that were only difficult because of time contraints & the fact that you haven't done that kind of math since well---high school. Congrats on passing phase I dude!

They give you a booklet and the have an example of Math questions they may ask. This is what gets most people as they are expecting these questions. I will look for some of these questions later on tonight. Then they hit you with questions which are much harder. I was expecting this as I got a heads up from another forum board where a lot of feds frequent, so when I took it I was expecting the worst and it wasn't so bad.

Rememebr the Math is only 15% of phase I. I think they make it difficult to rattle the test takers for the rest of the exam.
