    Got The DQ Letter

I got DQ'ed 2day from IS position. I cant believe it. For a medical. I have a sciatic nerve thing that pops up 1 or twice a year. I do the Chiropractor thing. To keep it in line. I dont need to but I do. I have been lifting weights for 23 years. So I listed the stupid thing on my FP-140. The sent me a list of essential duties from HQ and to be honest I have never seen these essential tasks before. The asked me to go to a Board Cert. Ortho Dr. So I did. The Dr. was very hesitant about the FBI task sheet he said he did not know my history. I said there is no history just adjustments. So to cover his a$$ he was cautious. FBI said I did not meet the requirements. I am appealing the process because if there are essential tasks such as climbing a 4 ft fence, climbing a 10 ft ladder, squating, kneeling, crouching sitting for long periods of time, driving, climbing over a highway median just to list a few. My complaint to the FBI is why was I not tested for these things at the time of the initial medical. The same as the Special Agent process. I can do these things standing on my head. The DQ letter states I did not qualify because I could not do the essential tasks. That is a load of BS. The tasks were not listed on the job description on the FBI we site in June 2003, and if they are listed then a test should be given for the applicant to complete, not take the word of and outside DR who stated he could not give me a fair answer without history and he would not do the essential tasks with me because it is not his job. He was not a FBI DR. Feedback from anyone please.

The sciatic nerve can lead to MAJOR problems. My mom was off work for almost 3 months due to hers cramping from her L4-5 pinching on it. YOu have to look at it from their view. Good Luck!

Welcome to the federal system, where there are many nuisances to disqualify an applicant. I don't know much about the particular position you applied to, but I do know about processing and it looks like you were affected by liability. The FBI did what most federal agencies do when they see a medical condition that may hamper job performance: get a medical clearance from a professional. If your doctor did not sign a form giving you clearance then the agency will not process you.

You state that you are appealing the process. I would find a specialist who will clear you to help with your case.

    Good luck.
Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

Sorry to hear the news, we've all been there believe me. If you still want a shot at the position it's imperative you find a board-certified doctor who is willing to clear you (or find the original doctor who treated you). I had a similar problem getting into US Customs several years back. I had had recent knee surgery for torn cartilage. They (Customs) wanted more info from my "board-certified" orthopedist because initially it appeared I could not handle the "essential tasks" of the job. Basically they made a whole stink about it. My doctor turned in copies of his medical records about my knee & wrote several memos all ending in "...said patient is capable of handling the essential tasks of the job he is applying for." I eventually got in. They even needed another memo from my doctor when I was already at FLETC (that wasn't easy--I was thousands of miles away from home)! The big G always looks out for its own behind from potential liability. But don't give up, there's always another way in...Good luck.

    ps
if you can't win this round, don't be discouraged to re-apply. You've come this far, don't think that you won't go all the way next time.

Went to a Ortho Dr. today and he cleared mr for the Investigative Specialist Essential Tasks. Sent it in with my appeal, just will play the waiting game again. I dont have a good feeling about the FBI changing ther mind.

Ok guys I put my appeal in this week, I also got an approval for duty from a Ortho Dr. on wed. and I got another today from a different Ortho Dr. Both did a great job and did alot more than the 1st Ortho Dr. did. The 1st was just a Richard Head as far as I am concerned. So to sum it up I have a neutral letter from a Ortho Dr. and two releasing me for duty, and a letter from my chiropractor releasing me for duty. It is out of my hands
