I am at the bottom of the I band (GS12/13) and it is about $80,000 a year. So yes this is the most cash I have every made and I have little to do while I am at work. As long as none of the passengers act up and the plane does not crash, I have lots of time on my hands. I do a little reading for school, read the newspaper and watch lots and I mean lots of DVDs. Morale is very low here. It seems like the managment is allways just sitting around just trying to make our day harder(dresscode, hotel stays etc.) But I can't complain to much because of the money I am making to do nothing.
Hello intheaircop! Tried to send you a PM but for whatever reason it failed to work. If you have some time, try to PM me. I have some questions on how things are since I left the FAM service! I too loved that sportcoat requirement, especially on Southwest!

I'm wondering if you do have any contact with airline security personnel like investigators, ground security coordinators, etc... at all?
I am an airport police officer and know many of the TSA personnel that are management and TSA inspectors. They make good money from what I hear. The inspectors investigate security violations ranging from failing to declare a firearm to entering the Air Operations Area without permission. If there are criminal charges to be filed, we have one federal TSA LEO at our airport who will coordinate with the local FBI field office to prosecute federal cases.

From what I have seen, many airlines have their own ground security coordinators who meet with the TSA folks to talk about security issues, etc.

    Hope this helps ;)

    Scott,

Thanks for the reply. Do you know any of the airline ground security coordinators at all? This is the job I am really interested in. I have tried e-mailing several airlines asking for more information on the positon, like what kind of background, education & training they look for in a potential candidate, but none of the companies I have e-mailed have gotten back to me at all. I think the only way I'm going to find out anything more about the job is too find somebody who knows someone who works for an airline, so I could possbily contact that person directly & ask them the questions I have.

to all the potential FAM recruits

If you prefer a looooooong and boring day without much paperwork and not much potential of moving up to any other different slots or positions, then this might be for you. If you are a former/current LEO working the streets, don't make the mistake I did and jumped on the bandwagon. I'm coming up on three years and have been trying for a year and a half to get back on the streets and do "real" police work and have more variety in daily duties and more potential for advancement or doing other positions. But like intheaircop said, u will have time to take online courses if that's your method of learning. In other words, do your research and make sure your life is ready for the FAM life. I don't know how those married guys with kids do it. They complain all the time. Anyways, just my 2 cents. out.....
