Anyone know the current working conditions for the Pentagon Police? How are such things as morale, work schedule (5-8, 4-10, 3-12), & off duty carry?

This is third-hand information. Morale has vastly improved since Post 9/11. They get what they need. They have quite a few specialty units. Not sure about the work schedule. And you can carry off duty, since HR218 was passed.

That's hammered up. IOW, they can't carry period, off-duty? DC have strict gun laws like NY?Originally Posted by DC Law

Is that how they are getting around not allowing off duty carry by Police Officers, taking away their ID? I figured they would find some way to get around it.
The VA never allowed Officers to carry off duty, but since HR218 passed they allow us to carry our personal weapons and secure them on station. It's a friggin miracle.

The one item on HR 218 is that Law Enforcement Officers MAY carry off duty. It leaves it open to the department discression if they wish to have their officers carry off duty.
That or a department could have as a condition of employment that there is no off duty carry. Basically HR 218 was put in place to override state laws that did not permit any type of conceled carry or requirements that were very difficult to get a carry permit.
For an officer who works in a state that has a conceled carry law is to get the state carry permit if their employer would not let them carry off duty and they would wish to do so.
I bet it would really make their blood boil to stop a guy visiting from Texas with a loaded gun tucked in his waistband only to find he is a LEO protected by that law, while their own agency doesnt allow them that luxury in their own city.
I guess it comes down to job security. If you work for an agency that prohibits off duty carry, but you meet the requirements under HR218....I'm sure you could avoid the arrest but not so sure about departmental disciplinary action.

So just to confirm, DC now allows off duty LE to carry? (assuming it's within agency policy obviously)
Not that it matters to me... I wouldnt go to DC without a gun if my life depended on it, but I always carried my agency issue SIG. Figured if I ran into a **** who seized it, an agency gun was more likely to get returned than my own piece.
What is your major malfunction, numbnuts? Didn't Mommy and Daddy show you enough attention when you were a child?
Good for you & the VA Piggy! I'm thinking a lot of LE agencies that don't allow their officers off duty carry of agency weapons, state or Fed, will end up what you guys do & at least let you carry your personals to & from work. Nothing worse than being carjacked in full uniform on the way to work without a weapon to protect yourself with. Can you imagine calling your sergeant & telling him/her why you can't be at work that day! Stay safe...
I work for FPS and we are authorized to carry our weapons home and off duty. This makes me wonder if it is different from "boss" to "boss" even within our agency.

FPS207...How long have you been able to carry your weapon home & off duty? Only reason I ask is I think you might be correct, (boss to boss). I think I read it on yahoo, but someone from the FPS was hoping for a blanket policy as they couldn't carry off duty.
Can you believe it has been three years since 9/11 and Police Officers are still fighting to carry guns off duty?

I know a few FPS guys from KC area and they are allowed to carry on and off duty. One of them got into an off duty incident and had to use it last year.....Originally Posted by FPS207

I can not believe some of you guys can not carry your issued weapon off duty. This is my first Fed job and I get to carry my issued weapon when ever and were ever I want. I thought all FED LEOS could carry. I see all kinds of LEOs flying with weapons but I have not run into a FPS or VA cop yet. Oh well and keep up the good fight.
Oh by the way. I am only permited to carry my issued weapon while off duty. No other guns allowed.
