What's up Ranger... I see you started a new thread on the Fed. - I like it where I'm at in the 12'th District. We're seeing a lot of changes, with a new DSO and more stringent training. Our management needs to weed some bad seeds, but where don't you have that problem.
This is a new agency, and that's why there have been some bumps in the road. I think that things will continue to mellow and the ride will get smoother as time goes on.
We could stand to make more money, but hey, who doesn't say that, huh?
Not to re-start an old post, but I was just hired by the NYC fed and start tues. the 18th. How is it? Looks and sounds like a great place to start out and get my foot in the door. Living in NJ its hard to find somthing.
We'll glad to hear it. Some of the training can be a little dry but haing in there.
One thing I would like to do is head out to NYC some time for a vacation and take a tour of the NYC Fed. I think it's one of the few left that have open public spaces.
Our's only offeres limited tours a few times a month by arrangement only.
I was wonding, is there any PT during the training weeks or is it just book and field work?

How intense is the Background Investigation for this Agency? Like do they check H.S. recoreds, talk to neighbors that kind of thing?

Just started this past tuesday in NYC, it took mee about 7 months from when i sent my app in to my start date.
I'm still waiting here in St. Louis. I was kinda concerned but its only been 5 months. They said that they would start interviewing in Feb. From what it sounds like, the St. Louis Fed Police get treated like, and have duties similiar to security guards. The only reason I would entertain the position is in the hope that the management climate could change.
Starting pay? 28,500 plus 10% for night shift. I'm 23 and do not have a pension from a 20 year career somewhere else. For the responsibility, in my opinion, the pay sucks. I make almost 10 grand more as an Armed Courier for Brinks, granted I have to put in some overtime.
I sincerely hope that the Board of Governors 'provides direction' (after all thats what they are supposed to do) on some sort of standardization. I have heard that some Banks even get their officers POST certified so they are also state certified. I know Nashville has a SWAT team, Kansas City FRB Police travel at least once a year with the bank President in an Executive Protection role, and St. Louis, well you have to leave your badge and creds at the Bank. In St. Louis, do not even think about HR 218.
I hope things are better for you guys that at FRBSTL. If I get on, perhaps I can try to change some things without getting fired.
In Kansas City the only federal police officers that are even recognized by the locals as such are FPS. All the rest are seen by local LEO's as just security guards. I'm speaking of how it really is, not on paper.....
Here in NYC starting pay is 33K plus 15% night, we keep our creds when we leave, and have CW if we choose which is covered under 218 as well since WE ARE FLEO. We are FLEOs and we are also state cert by NY and NJ. Since each bank is self run, pay and creds and certs are all decided by the bank you are at, not just the Board of Governors.

It is interesting that you said in NYC, FRB falls under 218. Another member stated they did NOT. I thought FRB was quasi-federal in the realm of Amtrak Police (who don't fall under 218). I'm also intrigued that in NYC you are certified by NY an NJ. When you are speaking of that, do you hold police officer status or peace officer status. Also do you attend the same academy as the Port Authority? Interesting stuff....
