I've read several interesting threads in the "other" forum about the US Marshals. I'm confused about what the difference is between DUSM 0082s & USMS "Detention Enforcement Officers?" Is the DUSM 0082 the new name for legacy DEOs?

The DUSM-082 is NOT the new name for DEOs. DEOs and DUSM-082 are 2 seperate, still active positions. DEOs primarily do transport and cellblock. DUSM-082s can do everything that a DUSM-1811 (criminal investigator) can EXCEPT carry a case load.
That being said, depending on your district, 082s may be limited to court transport and cellblock. In other districts, 082s get to rotate out to the warrant squad with 1811s (usually not to the extent of 1811s). MOst districts fall somewhere in between.
DEO top out at GS& (I think), while DUSM-082s top out at GS11 (I think). Neither position receives LEAP.We bring evil things to evil people, kicking in a door near you!

Tunlrat, 082s DO NOT attend CITP. They are not investigators, hence they attend only the basic Deputy U.S. Marshal Course. 1811s (Criminal Investigators) attend both BDUSM and CITP.We bring evil things to evil people, kicking in a door near you!
