What is IEA?
Immigration Enforcement Agent
**** sometimes the Federal Goverment is fast with apps and hiring, but when they are slow they are almost dead in nature. I'd call and see whats up.
you've been reading about all the stink raised by agents doing interior enforcement lately haven't you?
7 Border Patrol agents assigned to all of San Antonio, Texas!
i just don't believe real interior enforcement will ever exist.
From what I am hearing there is a total hiring freeze in DHS. So you will have to wait for the new budget. I am still wanting to hear what IEA duties are going to be?
"I am just a worm on the end of a big hook trying to survive in this agency"
"I have not shaved in 3 weeks and it is starting to itch bad"
"Was that noise my cuffs falling on the floor as I am playing my PSP"
from what i have heard, they will primarily be based at jails and will be checking the immigration status of inmates.
i think the ice website names other duties, but i don't believe it will be much else.
In Buffalo we do alot of deports, both domestic and overseas. The domestics are either putting the deporteee out of the country from Miami or NYC and then return the next day. We are also handling other agency calls which BP used to respond to. There are four IEAs assigned to fugitive ops and 3 assigned to an INTEL team .. The rumour is we are taking over IRP and ACAP next month. I work out of an SPC so we don't do much transporting. As far as detention duties go, we run the processing areas (booking), central control (push buttons allday) and armed posts(think security guard). Overall the job has alot of opportunity for those that want to work. For the slugs they can bid detention posts and push buttons all day. We also have an SRT team and now a TIAC team TIACis new and is pretty high speed . They are going through 2 weeks of specialized training in Georgia and are to be a nationally certified team. I am a former BPA and can honestly say this job has more opportunity for those who want it. There are just so many different duties to this job and we are constantly dealing with other fed agencies. We are being told all future Deportation Officer positions will be filled by IEAs, but who knows. I make much more money as aGS9 IEA then I did as a GS9 BPA. This year I will break 70K and possibly 75. The down side to the job is a lack of respect. People look down on IEAs mainly because they are still looked at as DEOs. I think this is mainly because there are alot of DEOs especially on the southern border that couldn't make it anywhere else. Overalll the caliber of DEO was probably higher in the NOrtheast than on the southern border. MOst of the DEOs or now IEAs have 4 years of college or military and many of us were former BPA, Inspectors, VA Polive , local police and we even have a FAM.
that actually sounds inspiring! of course, i have no idea what IRP, ACAP, and TIAC stand for.
one question though, how is your gs-9 paying more now than in BP? more overtime? locality?
anyway, it's just nice to think that maybe someone is doing a little interior enforcement. especially after i just finished reading San Antonio, Texas, has a 7 man BP station.
IRP=Institutional Removal Program
ACAP=Alien Criminal Apprehension Program
TIAC=Tactical Intervention and Control
I make more as a GS9 IEA than BP because of the 45 ACT overtime on the deports. It's easy money and not uncommon to earn 40-50 hrs OT over a 3-4 day trip.
Also we get perdiem which can be substantial. For example I went to Singapore my per diem was about 600 dollars. We were in the air for 4 days , so that gave me 600 for two days spending.
In terms of interior enforcement, BP has been doing a whole lot of "sweeps" out here in southern Cali. Some ACLU-type "groups" don't like it, they're comparing the BP to the Gestapo. That might be a LITTLE melodramatic. I mean c'mon the Gestapo?? It's not like they're sending them to concentration camps! :eek:
IEA really sounds like a cool gig. I hope they start hiring again soon.

I took this examination in Oct 2002 I believe. I scored 100 on the exam and recieved a letter stating something to the effect that I would hear from them regarding an oral interview I believe.Originally Posted by tunlrat
About 6 months later I received something about them hiring for North Dakota or Montana which I was not really interested in.
In I think December of last year, I received another letter stating that the job no longer exists and that I could retest for a job in Customs and Border Protection. That test was to be given in Dayon Ohio. So I got disgusted and have not reapplied.
(The dates may not be exact, I don't feel like digging out the paperwork)
I was in the same exact situation you were in Napkin. I too was really disgusted with teh INS.Originally Posted by napkin
I took 2 exams and scored near 100% on both.
