    Question Transportation Security Administration

I know you all spoke a bit about this in other post but (yea here comes the but :p ) do you all know of anyone who is in the new job already as a new TSA screener?

The reason I am asking this is.... I passed all tests for this job and I received a contingent job offer. As long as my background and drug tests come back clear, which they will, then I'm in. I have no idea yet as to how those who have already started are liking these new jobs. I am very excited to be getting in on the ground level of a new Federal job. I know the pay is a GS 6 rate. If you all know of anyone who is in it now then how do they like it? What are their shifts? How do they decide the shifts? By bidding or seniority? I should start training in about the next month and I am just real curious as to how this is all going to go. Thanks for your time. Take care.

Disregard intheaircop. He/she tends to be misinformed.
Your intention to be a TSA Security Screener is good if you have a plan with your future government employment. It is a foot in the door that many people do not understand. Getting into TSA is harder than most people think. TSA is still going through many growing pains but things have gotten better. TSA tends to be in the media more because of it's relatively new mission and public view.

Most screeners like thier job because it is easy. Look for the threat and deal with it as per SOP. The pay is good also. Hopefully in the near future, we can all get raises easier based on superior performance and not longetivity like most other federal agencies. When you get to your assigned airport, all of your admin questions will be answered since not all airports work the same hours. Count on being assigned to a peak travel period with regular days off (RDO) to be during the week for a new screener.
For the initial training you will be subjected to, listen and pay attention. When it's all done you will still need to get through many hours of On the Job Training (OJT) before being given the oppurtunity for certification. Have a good attitude and deal with each person/customer/passenger as if they were your family going through the same process.
    GOOD LUCK!!

Kris hasn't logged on in nearly SEVEN YEARS, and the last post in this thread is more than four years old.

Thread Resurrection is frowned on around these parts.
