    Changes at the FBI?

W/ all the changes to going on at the FBI, i.e. professionalizing the IA career tract, myriad of SA moving and training, etc. that have been mentioned on the board and in the hearings and media.

How will this affect the SSG/Inv. Spec. position. Are similiar changes or mention of changes in the loop for this position or is it status quo until the dust settles for others?

Is there a feeling/opinions that changes need to be made to this career track?

    Thanks

Unidos, nothing thus far or in the forseeable future has impacted SSG. To bad, many of the G's hold Masters Degrees and come from other Gov agencies where they worked as Counterintelligence Agents...they could be a HUGE asset to the FBI. But, since they are still "support" they will NEVER get do respect from the "system". They are frequently put in harms way with not mechanism to protect themselves and they are treated like they cannot handle intel projects, when you compare it to other Agencies with similar positions (DOD, NCIS, ETC.). It's the typical we vs. them thing... but, that said, the they are treated better than other support employees in the FBI, which is sort of sick when you think about it. I've seen FIRST class people with MA and PHD's leave becuase of how they are treated (compared to SA's). So my friend, take the SA job, you'll be happier, more respected and will be able to make decesion and do basic things without getting 5 supervisors approval.

Well, Ripper must have had some bad experiences, but I do not have any horror stories, nor do any of my close coworkers in the Analyst position. Only a SMALL percentage of agents with a big head will look down on support roles, but all of the agents I work with rely heavily on intelligence analysis and support to their cases, etc.

The main thing to consider in comparing agents vs. support is....do you want to be support and choose where you want to live, or become an agent and be (basically) told where to live, when to transfer.

The SSG guys and the Intell. Analysts are both great support positions.

Thanks eff-bee-eye, that is the first time I have heard something that made sense about a support position with the FBI.

Also, I have had friends that do the SSG thing for a few years, and want to move past a GS-11 (or GS-12 as a team leader), so they then apply to the Intell. Analyst position as a GS-12 or 13, and can then move up to a 14.

E-B-E is right on this one! SSG has lost a lot of people to the IA program becuase it has a higher career potential. Actually, SSG has lost a lot of people. Hum? Self-imposed I suspect!!!!!!

Should be interesting to see how things play out after the 9-11 commission releases its report. Next two years will be MAJOR!
