I was wondering if anyone out there had any stories of speical agents being hired through the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP). Or if anyone out there has any insight into the program.
The SCEP is a CO-OP program for college students seeking future employment in the Federal system. I am currently being paid as a GS4 with a promotion to GS5 when I graduate.
The pay and benefits however, are not the best part of the program. Upon graduation you have the ability to be non-competively converted to a core position in any federal agency granted the agency will take you and the position is available. I am highly interested in SA positions in ICE, DEA, or SS, but the agency I am working for will offer no help in converting to a different agency.
I was originally interviewed for the CO-OP position in INS investigations which would have converted me to an INS SA, but with all the reformations to DHS I was pushed off into CIS. My interviewer told me the position was established to get your foot in the door, and that it is a pretty competitive position.
Sorry this so long, but i've spent a lot of time researching it. I haven't heard of many stories regarding it, so any input would be greatly appreciated.
