    usmc reserves

just how helpful would going into the usmc reserves be in terms of obtaining a career in federal law enforcement? more specifically the usms? and on another note, would i really be able to participate in special programs in the usmc as a reserve such as recon, sniper, host/resc, etc.?

I am not sure what you mean by helpful. The two are two totally different career paths and one usually doesn't directly influence the other. The similiarities between military service and law enforcement are few and far between. So do the reserve thing if thats what you want to do. Don't do it as a nexus to becoming a US Marshal. You might be stuck with something you didn't want to do, if the Marshal thing doesn't come through.

what i meant was would it be some good experience to have, and would that be very attractive to federal agencies, would that be something positive on a resume? and if yes then just how positive? i know that usms is looking for ppl in the military, and many ppl would have me assume that going into the service would be something that would be beneficial in terms of being selected for a usms job

Yes, military experience will ALWAYS help out a resume, for whatever career as long its an honorable discharge. Any career field is good as well, don't think you have to be involved in military LE to look good, just the experience and culture of the military is looked highly upon. However don't do it just to make yourself more competitive. The military is a commitment just like LE, especially the Reserves. Those people are deployed all the time, sometimes more than the active duty folks.

The usms recruits from those getting out of active duty service, not the reserves. There might be an exception for those who were activated for a period of time (180 days?). I was in the Marines, both active duty and the reserves, and all I will say is that they are two different animals.

to go at the original post from a different angle......Realistically the chances of you becoming special forces is slim to none. The training is just too extensive for the Marine Corps to recieve much of a benefit from a reservist. As a reservist field radio operator I was given the opportunity to try out for Force Recon and give up my reservist status in the hope that I would make it. I did not take it. If you are still going the reservist route and want to be part of that action I would reccomend some sort of 0300 MOS or something that closely works with them .......with those MOS's might come later opportunities to further your training. I know in my unit which is civil affairs there are always opportunities to get some of that "high speed" training that you are looking for. But be warned the more experience you have the more deployable you become......the choice is up to you.
