Can anyone tell me how long it takes to go up one grade in pay on the federal pay scale? Does it vary per agency/dept? I am trying to find out how long it takes to reach top journeyman pay.

It depends on what agency you are with. For most 1811s (which I know most about), you make journeyman in 5-6 years (depending what grade you start at).

I have been offer a position as a Criminal Investigator GS - 1811 - GS - 10 with the DEA. I think they are desperate for Spanish speaking people to help crack down the Hispanic groups that are trafficking drugs into US Soil. And being that I speak, read and write every Spanish language known to man, I feel that the DEA will use me abuse and stretch me through the most extreme conditions to help crack down the bigger fish which have been hiding behind the little people who have been doing their dirty work for the past 50 years. I wish all that are trying to become a member of the Federal Agencies, it is not easy to become a member and the agencies are not for everyone.
