    Local to Federal?

Just trying to get some feedback on anyone on this board that went from being a local police officer to a federal police officer. The info I have obtained is usually local to federal special agent. I want to know if anyone went from a local police offcier to a federal police officer, and did they like the move or resent the move, and wish they could go back to local policing, or did. Any info would be appreciated. I haven't found anyone who went from a local pd to a federal pd and sung their praises. I am trying to decide to make that leap.

Old FBI fingerprint specialist, Shipp, came back or went to local (I'm pretty sure its came back) after his days with the FBI. He works at the training center now. Not sure why he came back honestly, I never thought to ask him.

The variety of federal police jobs is so diverse that It is hard to answer your question.

I do know a local officer that left a small town GA police force for the Border Patrol. He could not cut the spanish language requirement and returned.

In my case I left local law enforcement for different career fields in the federal service. I ended up in the VA Police to stay in the federal system to keep my retirement benefits as well as stay in a region where my wifes family is located.

I would prefer a local job as the VA system is more security based. On the otherhand I am not willing to leave 18 years of federal service to do it. Besides I might be able to get back into my old federal photo job again.

I appreciate all your responses. I work for a Metro Atlanta police department and I have to admit I have it pretty good. However going over to the Federal Police side, I will get my prior civilian federal service time back and my military time. That along with the same benefits of a take home car and a higher annual salary approximately $8,000 over what I make now, make it very tempting. I am just wondering if giving up my specially fitted police car with all the toys a traffic officer can want, along with the freedom to do what I want and have flexible hours, is worth the risk of doing some law enforcement which may be slightly outside the realm of what I have done for the past ten years. Everything about the job is a plus, and the only uncertainty is the exact work that is involved, and if I will like it. Thanks again for any and all responses.
