Family Background - Will it make a difference?

Hello,

I am currently in college and I am interested in getting into a government related job.

Now, for instance...say I would be interested in pursuing a job with the FBI. Would my family's background history hurt me?

My family isn't full of hard-core criminals, the crimes are:
1. My father has been in the county jail three times. Once for driving while under the influence, twice for being drunk at home and another family member called the police. That last offense was about 7 years ago.

2. My brother has been in a Juvenile Detention facility once for shooting a gun on the family's property, and once in KidsPeace for threatening to commit suicide. That last happened about 9 years ago.

Also, one additional question if I may... for computer networking/IT, what government jobs are the most popular?

Thanks so much!

Happy Veterans day!

DEA Intelligence Research Specialist

Are there any current or ex DEA Intelligence Research Specialists on the board, or any DEA agents who know about what intelligence research specialists do? I'm looking for a bit of info about the position beyond what is listed in the job description, such as what type of things the person might be expected to undertake (writing reports, making presentations, assisting agents in surveillance tasks, making the coffee for the agents etc.) Is it a desk job or more of a field job, or does it depend on all kinds of factors? And is it a position in which I would be working with the agents, rather than for the agents?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

DEA Panel Interview Help!!!

Hey guys, I have an upcoming panel interview this week with the DEA. About two months ago I took the written test and just this past week they notified me saying that I passed and I have an interview this coming week.
Here's the problem. My plans after graduation college was to apply to the local police department here but due to the economy they are currently in a hiring freeze. So I decided to take my shot with the DEA and here I am now. But I have no prior law enforcement experience. Any suggestions and idea on how to handle the panel interview with no law enforcement experience? I have a gut feeling they will ask me how they think my education has prepared me to become a DEA agent. Any help would be appreciated.

ok like most of us out there waiting to get picked up by a Fed agency, i'm sitting around waiting as well haha! took my POST test with the USCP in February, passed, and filled out my background info packet. my referances have since all been called.
in May, did my medical, poly, and psych. haven't heard anything since then. i've called down there a few times and have been told "i'm still in there. and just have to keep waiting". i know the august class got cancelled due to budget issues. they told me the next class will be in january and they will be calling people in november and december.
problem is, my current job wants me to make a long term commitment to them which of course i don't want to do if i end up getting a phone call a week later LOL.
i was thinking of going down there and talking to someone in person to see if i can get some insight to my possible future with them. anyone work for them that can shed some light on this for me? thanks in advacne...

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums here. First, I'll give a little background on myself. I'm currently a senior biochem major in college who has wanted to become an fbi agent for a while. I was wondeirng what I could do to better my chances to my dream, which is the fbi? I will be starting a masters in chemical engineering next year, will that be enough?

Also, if anyone knows, what do they make special agents with science backgrounds (and no law enforcement experience) do?

Thanks in advance.
