It sounds a lot like something I went through in my 20's. Hypo-glycemia... Or where the body creates too much insulin and breaks down the sugar in the blood stream too rapidly. I got the shakes, dizziness, sweating and felt awful, which is sounding like what you had.
Eat something that has protein in it, like meat, eggs, cheese. It does not need to be a heavy meal, but you need it to have some substance to it. Begin to eat snacks of cheese or something. They do not need to be big snacks, just a slice or two of cheese or meat, or an egg. Do not start eating starchy stuff like crackers as snacks, the sugars produced by starches tend to break down too fast, and actually produce sharper highs and lows of blood sugar. Peanut butter would be a good choice.
Also, get yourself checked out. Hypoglycemia can be the beginning of diabetes, and if you have more than one episode of this, you should get evaluated. Mine has remained as truly hypoglycemia, but you never know, and my grandma was diabetic.
