One week left and I am done with my EMT

    :D

I have my written test on Thursday, and practical on Saturday.

I need to register for the Nat'l Registry too. Good thing is, this is the first year I won't have to retake the practical for the Nat'l Registry :D :p

So does anyone want to give me some questions to test me?

And for those who remember my earlier post about how much I took on this semester, I agree...I was stupid for what I did. I left work and also messed up my fall semester of class at college because of yup...EMT was more then I could have ever thought

Hey Graham...how much more do you have? Oh yeah...a whole one more semester :p

Question: After hyperventilation how long do you have to insert the combitube and get the bag attached and get air to your patient?

30 seconds from last ventilation, ntl registry standards.

Did you print off the skill sheets from the ntl reg?

If you get a call for a person down whom you KNOW has AIDS/HIV and upon your arrival , a Good Samaritain is about to do " unprotected " or is doing mouth to mouth , can you warn them that the person has AIDS/HIV ?

I was gonna answer that, but I guess that would defeat the point of quizzing Hockey, wouldn't it?

Hmm... What is the depth and rate of chest compressions for an adult in cardiac arrest?

True or false: All arteries carry oxygenated blood?

    What is an ectopic pregnancy?

A child struck by a vehicle may have injuries in what three regions of the body (hint: Waddell's triad)?

Cardiac tamponade is caused by what? And, how do you recognize it?

Nope. I'm registering right now and I guess I can't sign up for a test until AFTER class completion

Nope, but a friendly accidental kidney shot is always good.

Plus the chances of getting AIDS/HIV through mouth to mouth isn't as great as via blood or vomit.

Hmm... What is the depth and rate of chest compressions for an adult in cardiac arrest?1/3, 30:2 unless you have 2 rescuers then its 15:2

True or false: All arteries carry oxygenated blood? True last time I checked

What is an ectopic pregnancy? The development outside the uterus-pregnancy complications

A child struck by a vehicle may have injuries in what three regions of the body (hint: Waddell's triad)?

Your last two got me. I don't ever recall learning the Waddell's triad. And Cardiac tamponade...uhh never heard of that either...so I'm going to cheat

I do know a child struck by a vehicle is going to have injuries in the abdomen more than an adult due to height and such

Alright I don't know about the child one. I just know airway is going to be affected, chest injury severe, and also possible femur fracture

Cardiac tamponade...hmm never heard of that honestly...going to have to look it up in the book as I do not recall looking over this part when I get home

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardiac_tamponade

The thing I enjoy is I have such a high score in the class, I could pretty much fail the test for class and still pass as long as I pass the practical. You need a 80% AVERAGE to pass the class. So its all good

Gotta admit, this went by much faster then I could have ever thought

    Keep the questions coming

Assessments? Give me a situation and I'll explain what I'll do. Then correct me (then I'll look at the practical sheet we got-I'll copy them on here if I can)

Sad thing is, in class for assessments, people keep forgetting STILL the first thing you look at is Airway Breathing Circulation. Airway and Breathing can be easily taken care of by having them respond to you :D

    EDIT
Wait I stand corrected on the Artery/O2 question. I forgot the Pulmonary artery is the only one that doesn't. If I recall correctly, blood gets pumped through the pulmonary artery to get oxygenated through the lungs....duh on my part :p

If a train leaves Baltimore Station at 10.45 a.m. and it travels at an average speed of 55 mph....

With the way our trains have been running here, it won't get anywhere. Three derailments in a week or something crazy like that.

    Hockey:

Double check your adult chest compression ratio for two rescuers. Everything that I have says 30:2 under the new AHA guidelines, both single and two rescuer, for adults. Your local protocols may vary, however.

Yes, 1/3 is part of the answer for compression depth, but the complete answer is 1/3 to 1/2 the thickness of the chest.

Good catch on the pulmonary artery. And conversely, the pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood back to the heart.

    You got the ectopic pregnancy.

Waddell's triad -- you're barking up the right tree and basically got it: Leg (femur), abdomen, head. Think about a child's size, and what impacts are going on. The bumper hits the kid - leg injury. The kid then hits the grille or the hood - abdomen/thoracic injury. The head then strikes the hood, or the ground when the child is thrown by the vehicle - head injury.

Cardiac tamponade... okay, maybe that was a bit mean of me. It might be more of an ALS question. The Wiki article covers it decently enough, between that and the Beck's triad entry.

I'll work on some more questions. I'm having issues thinking of general knowledge stuff, since I'm so used to doing protocol questions for our new people.

Your called to a man who has gone into cardiac arrest, and has regained a pulse after 1 shock from the AED. Dispatch informs you the ALS unit has a 20minute ETA on the eastern part of the county, the hospital is 15 minutes west of your location. What do you do

    A. Wait on scene for the ALS unit
    B. Cancel ALS and transport
    C. Load the patient and meet ALS halfway
    D. Laad the patient into the ambulance and wait on scene for ALS

This was a test question I had

Head enroute to the hospital. You can meet ALS half way but your going out of the way.

Time is in the essence in this scenario IMO.

It all depends on local protocols and direction from MedControl

We had our practice exam (150 questions-same format that we will get on Thursday-you can miss 45 (105 correct))

    I got 23 wrong :D

    It went pretty good
