    Ever delivered a baby?

I was curious if anyone here has actually delivered a baby and what the circumstances were? Was it nerve-wracking, or easy? Was the baby named after you? :p

I know it's a cop cliche on TV and movies, but I also know it's happened in real life and I'm interested to hear about real stories.

In my first week off FTO, I got a call of a pregnant woman about ready to give birth. Upon my arrival she had already had the baby. When I walked in the house looked like a murder scene. Blood everywhere! The mother was standing up talking on the phone with blood still pouring out of her. She had the baby when she walked into the bathroom. There was 2 big blood splatters on the floor. 1 where the baby hit (head first) the other was from the placenta. The baby was wrapped up in a towel by itself on a bed. 3 weeks premature but in good shape. Breathing fine. No obvious signs of injury. I tried to get the mom to hold the baby to keep it warm but she wouldn't. I guess in shock. I held it until rescue arrived about 30 minutes later. Mom and baby were fine.

ya about 3 times...not really my personal choice of call. It is stressfull and messy. I would much rather run a traumatic full arrest or multiple GSW's.

I wasn't working, but I helped deliver my best friend's baby last year. Yes, she was at the hospital, but she was in labor for 18 hours and I was there the whole time. The nurses were so confident with me (or maybe just lazy), that they kept leaving me alone with her and her husband...and this was even when she was pushing. I thought the hubby was gonna pass out! :D

In my six years on the ambulance in Milwaukee I delivered like 36 kids in my rig. That's a small fraction of the number of pregnant women we transported to the hospital that delivered there. In an average shift I'd get at least two to three L&D calls... It was like living in a city of rabbits!!!
