I can tell you are serious by the amount of question marks. Since you are now in the state system with Pa, it might make it easier to get picked up in another state system, but as far as I know, most states run independently of one another.

Plus, that is assuming you ever get to leave Gratorford.

Unless you are in the Federal System, I know of no state DOC's that will allow a simple "Transfer", as in employee benefits, salary, etc.

As to if you will have any preferred status towards hiring placement, I am certain your (additional) experience will be a bonus over those with none.

For the record, I know very little about Corrections, but this isn't actually a "Corrections" question as much as it is a "System" question.

    I agree with Creeker.
From what I know of Pa. DoC (from guys that worked in it) you will be stuck someplace (Graterford) for at least one year (3) until you are allowed to transfer out (or quit to go Federal or anything else). And that would be a transfer to another Pa. State Prison.

As far as PA goes I am unsure but I can relay what happens in the Michigan DOC.

After being with the department for so long you can apply for a transfer to a different facility. As for facilities in other states it's just like applying for a DOC job all over again. The only time DOC would transfer benefits are if they are having problems finding suitable candidates and rarely when appointing a warden.

Depending on the state and department you are going to applying for it's hard to say if they are going to make you go through the academy once again. That totally depends on the department and usually is listed in some type of FAQ on their respected websites. Usually state departments like their recruits to go through their academy once again because policies may differ and training as well. Some tactics that may be ok in PA may not be the proper procedure in FL and they probably want to make sure you get trained using their techniques and procedures to avoid confusing in the workplace and to maximize safety.

I know some departments in Law Enforcement (such as the Michigan state police) make candidates who may have been through an academy elsewhere go through the official MSP academy unless there is circumstances that would make it pointless.
