Inmates Riot / Take Control Of Private Correctional Facility In Texas

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/02/01/...iot/index.html

I was just watching CNN and saw a segment on this. According to the broadcast, inmates have taken control of part of the facility. Another riot also happened at this same facility on December 12, 2008 in which two staff members were taken hostage. Situations like this make me question whether private correctional facilities are effective and safe. In my opinion, correctional facilities should only be owned and operated by cities, counties, states and the federal government to ensure that Correction Officers as well as all staff are properly trained and that policy and procedure is being strictly adhered to.

Perhaps you don't remember Atlanta and Oakdale in 1987?

According to Danny Coulson's book, it took FBI HRT and SFOD-Delta (being deputized as Marshals to get around Posse comitatus), both deployed to bring it to an end.

I don't necessarily agree with privatization of prisons, but I don't think it makes a riot more or less likely to happen, or any different to deal with when it does happen.

I worked in a private institution. The officers recieve little to no training. My first day I was in the felony pod by myself and I had no experience.
