College of Legal arts?! 7 months? please look.

This school called College of Legal arts, has a Corrections officer program. its 7 months long... But if a Academy is between 6-16+ Weeks (depending on state) why is this school 7 months? can anyone explain if i should take this course or not? just wondering why its so long. If i were to take this course would i STILL have to go to a academy too? im kinda confused on this school.

I didn't look at the website, but skip it. Trust me.

If you want to go to school to help you with your career, then find an accredited school near you or online, and pursue a 4 year degree. Stuff like that with 'certificates' aren't worth the paper they are printed on.

... and, even with degrees, you would still need to go to the academy.

Guys with military, degrees, and prior LE often still need to go to the academy. The next question is, "Why get a degree?" Well, it's a good combination between proving yourself able to commit to something (and following through with it) and being a more competitive candidate.

I dont want to go to school. Im hoping my military will be enough to get me accepted into a academy. i dont wanna spend 4 years of my life going through college. i want the job ASAP.

Slimy I can understand not wanting to go to school for the next few years to just to get on with a corrections department. If you were in Washington you would meet the basic requirements to become a correctional officer and you would receive veterans preference points as well. If I were you I would start applying to the jobs you want and do your best and if you meet there requirements than you should be fine, however you could very possibly not get the position over the person with your same score has a college degree just the way things work.

Like they said above the school you are talking about is probably useless and a waste of money and yes you will still have to go through the academy.

Washington? is something different about them? i live in Oregon. not to far from washington.

No probably not. I imagine they are pretty much the same requirements. I was just using Washington as an example because that is where I live. Washington does have some great departments however. Pierce county is hiring like crazy if you ever decide to leave Oregon and decide to live around here.

Hmm thx for the Info im 19 and i live with my dad still but am planning to move out once i can geta job for some money.. maybe ill look into that.

Also regaurding that college and website i posted.. the school is sponsoered by the DPSST if that changes anything.

I didn't realize what your age is seeing as your 19 I think it would be best to get some college under your belt before you turn 21. There is really no reason not to and it will not hurt your chances (unless you do horrible in school) when your actually the qualified age to get on with corrections. If you are in the army I would use the options from the VA that you have available to you.

I do not know the age requirements for Oregon correction officers but if it's anything like Washington you have to be 21. Just keep your nose clean and don't screw your credit up and you should be alright.

On a side note I'm kinda curious about some of your previous posts/ threads and some of the statements you have made seeing as your 19 and still live with your parents. Do not take this the wrong way and I am not trying to start a pissing match with you or any one else. Like I said I'm just curious.

If you don't want to go to school, then don't. The program they offer doesn't replace the Academy, it doesn't replace a 2 or 4 year degree. It is designed to separate you from your money and will not help you in your career at all.

If I were you I would stay away from something like that. Your biggest obstacle is going to be your age. If you are looking at Oregon DOC you have to be at least 21 years of age. Maybe you could use the time between now and then to get a college degree from an accredited school. Not saying that the one that you mentioned is not accredited since I know nothing about it but it sure sounds funny. Even if you come in with a Ph.D you have to go through the academy. Please do not take this question the wrong way, but did you get an honorable discharge from the military? if not, you are going to have a big obstacle ahead of you. My guess is that you are still in the Army.
