Do you verify C/O's and if so are they granted access to the restricted sections?
Do you verify C/O's and if so are they granted access to the restricted sections?
There will be a mod that can give you an official answer along shortly, I'm sure.
However, I believe that the policy is that C/O's are not eligible for verification on this site unless they are fully sworn LEO's with identical training, arrest, and off duty carry powers as road officers(as some deputies assigned to jails are).

I'm sorry, but we do not verify correctional officers. While they are an integral part of the LEO system they generally don't have peace officer authority granted to them by most states and this is one of the foundations of the verification criteria here.

I believe California is one state that grants their "peace officers" state police powers. ( California Dept of Corrections )
It doesn't matter. That is ONE of the criteria. Correction Officers do not get verified here. It is not meant to be a slap in the face. We do not mean to make people think that we think lesser of them. It is ONLY a label. It serves to assure people that when they ask an LEO a question on here, they are actually speaking to someone who is what they say they are.

And for those CO's who do have full arrest authority, they are rarely in a position to use it outside of the jail setting. They simply have the creds as part of their state / local training/certification.
Creeper Cop
My post was a reference to comment about "some" states giving certain auth. to their co"s. I for one don't need the verification of what position I hold neither will I debate why co's are not verified on a website. There are those out there that need that reassurance of what position they may hold. We all have duties to fulfill regardless of what field of law enforcement we have chosen.
If i can set the record straight. Please keep in mind that i am a correction officer.Verification for LEO.A correction officer does not enforce laws.We enforce rules and regulations of correctional facilities.Although the department i work for has more hours of training than a lot of police departments and sheriff's offices, full arrest power of a felony happening in front of me,full off duty carry on my shield and ID we can not be verified on this site.Oh yeah,i am a peace officer and i work on the streets of my city but we are still correction officer not law enforcement officers.
Alrighty then... good for you. I think I will refrain from saying what I think about those dogs that bark the loudest. Perhaps, in all your grandeur, you could working on the reading comprehension. The verification is not about reassurances of one's position. It's about reassuring those that have questions that they wish to direct to someone who is REALLY A POLICE OFFICER, having some authority to speak on police-specific topics.
...and that is neither here nor there. The topic is hardly on the table for discussion. Sorry. It's just the way things are on here. Again, we are not trying to make little of anyone's role in the big LE machine. As I said, it is merely a label so that people know they are talking to a real LEO when they have a question they wish to direct to a REAL LEO.![]()

I was not trying to get the subject on the table for discussion.I dont mind not being verified,i enjoy the site and just add my two cents here and there.![]()
Not a field! Back to basics at the local community college criminal justice 101!
There are THREE distinct PARTS of the CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM:
1) Law enforcement: police officers
2) Judicial: judges, prosecutors and defense counsel
3) Corrections: correction officers
The criminal justice system would fail without one of the three parties. All are equally important, but the only similarity between the three parts is the scumbag perp who brings all three together.

Alright, I realize this is a REALLY sensitive subject. I gave my opinion in the thread and we'll leave it that.
