    Question

I apoligize in advance if I am in the wrong area....

This is the top of a booking sheet from the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office
    in Florida.

    Date Confined July 14, 2008
    Booking Officer MULLIN, VIKI
    Date Released September 18, 2008
    Releasing Officer's Name LAFLEY, KEVIN
Reason for being released DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS

What does the reason for being released mean? Was he released to the public or prison?

    TY

My guess is he was not "released," but instead transfered from the custody of the Sheriff's Department to State DoC.

Like Citicop said he was most likely sent from the sheriffs office (no longer in their care hence he was "released" ) and received by State DOC. In my department (DOC) there is some paperwork that has to be completed everytime we "give" an offender to a sheriffs office, and likewise there is paperwork involved in us receiving an offender from a sheriffs office.
Not sure about Florida specifics but most likely he was sent to a reception facility where diagnostics and intake orientation was completed. Among many things his custody level was probably determined at that time and then they started working on getting him into his permanent facility. That is how things work for us anyway, like I said, someone on here from Florida might be able to offer more specifics. Go to the Florida Department of Corrections website. They probable have some kind of inmate locator, where you can do a search on him.

Ty, I was actually able to find out he was released to the public. However both of you are correct. At court he was supposed to get 16mths, but they reduced it to 3 weeks and let him go. His mother called and asked them why the release says that, they said they are not sure.
    Thank you for helping!!!!!
