NYS DOCS OFFICER thinking about leaving for NYCDOCS.

I wanted to know if this would be a right move for me. Currently I am a NYS DOCS Officer working in Arthur Kill CF in Staten Island, NY.
Ok now heres the pros and cons.

Considering I work in a prison, my job is basically stress free. Its a medium facility so theres hardly any incidents involving inmate assaults. My job isnt hard and I get along with all my coworkers. I love working there but main problem is salary. NYC DOCS pays much more than NYS DOCS. I dont know why this is but I am strongly considering applying for NYC DOCS just for salary. What I would like to know is what are the cons of working for NYC DOCS ? Anyone that is a NYC DOCS Employee can please fill me in on the pros and cons and it would be greatly appreciated.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not bothered by this stuff, but here are some complaints i get a lot....there are more women in the dept than men, white people are the minority on the job, the senior guys dont look out for the rookies...other than that its not bad.

if u dont mind, around how much are you making?? sounds to me that u have a sweet gig on Staten Island...might want to re-consider and stay put

netsball makes very good points. Also your time will not count, you will have to pay the tolls every day,gas and your starting pay will be 35k.If you live on S.I. and work at Arthur Kill stay where you are.NYCDOC has good pay and benefits but the job sucks if you dont have a hook.

MY current salary is 55,000. Theres hardly any OT because the administration likes to save money. They get a sweet bonus if they limit the OT. I do live in Staten Island and save alot of gas and tolls. As for the people that work in my facility, its quite mixed. No one is a minority. We have a mix of all races where I work. I think I'll just take the sergeants test and stay put. Thanks guys !
