Re: N.Y.S. D.O.C.
Good Morning Fellas...
I traveled to Albany on April 21, 2008 for the Physical/Agility Tests. I passed and was given the Conditional Offer of Employment. A week later I got the horrible news that on that morning my blood/sugar was off the charts (231 normal being 80-120) and given 30 days to prove that my new diagnosis of Diabetes was under control.
This letter came in on a Saturday, and I was at my Doctor's Office on Monday morning. 29 days later and the Written Psychological Exam under my belt, my doctor finally agreed that I was up to NYS DOC standards and filled out the form. I called up the Employee Health folks and they told me to faxed over the Diabetes History Questionnaire immediately. A few days later, on a Friday evening no doubt, I receive a letter stating I was disqualified from becoming a Correctional Officer. I was devastated. I thought I have given them the info they required in a timely fashion.
Not the type to sit back and not do anything, I called up on Monday morning, and explained the situation and they asked for my name, and before I could give out my last name and social security number, the lady on the phone quickly said I could ignore that letter, and expect another letter saying everything was good to go and that my Investigator was notified of the reinstatement. Happy joy!
On Wednesday, just two days away, I'll be meeting with the Psychologist in NYC around 11am. Of course, the only thing that was stated a few weeks ago at the Written Psychological Exam was to dress for success.
My question is, how successful should I dress? Would that mean suit (jacket & slacks) + tie + and shiny shoes?
Another question would be, how long there after is the academy? Does it start around September? October?
Are there other steps before the light at the end of the tunnel?
Thanks for your time.
