It's not exactly an academy. It is Institutional Familiarisation (IF). You will basically sit around for two weeks whilst people from the institution over over the basics, and I mean basics, of the institution and the job. Then you will be thrown to the wolves to start working.
Within three months you should go to Glynco for a three-week vacation, I mean training course. Pay close attention to the post orders and do not sign them until you understand everything in them. There is a different set for each post.
Ask plenty of questions, but always ask more than one person. Many Senior Officers don't really know what the rules are and they are not on probation. Even if you are involved in an incident where a senior officer is involved, you will be terminated and he will not.
Be careful.
