    New around here

I ran across this forum while doing research for a lesson plan. I was excited to see a forum that was inclusive to all in the Law Enforcement/ Criminal Justus fields. I know this forum is more for the street cop, but I was happy to see that you included corrections. Correctional Officers as a whole seem not to have the since of pride in the job, or the camaraderie
    like street cops do.

There are a great deal of challenges in corrections that we as professionals have to over come. I read a few post on this board and saw some negative light on corrections. I believe the thread was locked but it was about the NYC CO and their motto "The Bold" and some of the responses that came from that. Working in corrections and working with some of the people that are attracted to the field I can see how that negative light cames about. Correctional Officers are sometimes are own worst enemies in the public relations arena.

I'm hoping my participation on this board and other in corrections like me that are professional and dedicated, can help bring corrections in a more positive light.

It's a pleasure to be here and hope to be accepted as a "regular" here soon.

    Soup.

    Thanks MP_Steve.

I got into corrections simply to pay the bills. About two years into my job I realize that I was very good at it. The skills and the professionalism I learned in my military background has helped my be successful in corrections.

There are many things in my department that I don't like so I decide to develop myself professionally and to promote as rapidly as possible. I figure if you want to change a department you can stand outside the capital building with signs or you can become a leader and guide the changes in the direction you want.

One of the things I'd like to change in my department and corrections as a whole is to raise the level of professionalism, I believe once we act more like professionals we well be accepted by other professionals

Again, glad to be on the board. Hoping to get into some great discussions (I love to debate:D)
