    NYS Corrections Academy - what's it like?

    What does the two months worth of training consist of - the good and the bad?

    The academy is actually very very simple. Its ran para-military so you will march, learn chain of command and all that, just follow directions and the time flys

    Most important thing ...DON'T QUIT ON THE FIRST WEEK..first and second week might be a little hard because you have to get used to all the new stuff.
    Time goes by fast in there.

    What are the groups of individuals referred to as..."Classes?" How many people per class?

    They call them session

    In the Albany academy there was 3 sessions running at the same time with a 2 week difference.They split each session in to Alpha and Bravo (it goes by last name...A trough L or M is Alpha and M trough Z is Bravo) with approx 30 people in each group.

    I heard it was exausting and mentally taxing. I cant wait. How long does NYS take to give you a hire date after you pass all there tests.

    Out of 65 to 70 you might have 6 or 7 that quit the first week..usually on that first sunday.

    I took the test in Oct 07.

    Next session is Dec. 1. I will be attending this session. I took the test April 07, scored fairly well but took another job for a while. Reopened my case and got the call a week and a half ago to show up for the upcoming training.
