What else can I do with a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice ?

Now that I have been rejected from the NYPD twice I'm starting to feel it is meant to be and I no longer can be a cop...my dream's shattered but...oh well...what can I say...

what else can I do with a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice? I never really thought about an alternative...because I was so sure I would make it into the nypd...I never had a plan B...

Adult Probation, Juvenile Probation, Corrections Officer, Parole Officer! Did they mention any of these fields in your CJ classes?

Thought about applying with another department!

Yep, they sure do. My Chief Probation Officer here in TX is from NY. NYPD had a freeze when he got out of College. He applied down here and got hired as a police officer.

I did not want to be a probation officer, parole officer, or a recreation officer in a prison either. I just needed a job. But I am glad I did. Those experiences have made me a better person and officer! Life's journey is not predictable!

Don't forget loss prevention and private security... with a 4 year degree and a few years on the job you'd be a likely candidate for regional LP manager at Target, Sears, etc

We had a half a dozen or more former NYPD guys after they laid off in 1975. We've had several from L.A. come up here and get on with us. The majority of course, are from here, but it's not at all uncommon for people to apply to departments in different states.

Then you don't want to be a cop either because that is about 60% of the job.

I was thinking the same thing!

Onlun: if you just graduated then I assume that you would be lucky enough where you can move to another state. Try doing that once you are married and have a family (not to say that you couldn't with that). Don't let this deter you from your goal. If you applied to the NYPD I'm going to make another assumption that you are in NY. Try local departments. Remember though, that given the current economic climate and the fact that LE is tied to funding, anywhere may be difficult now.

Ok, I have to ask. What was the reason you got rejected twice? It might help us with our answers wether you stand a chance applying in a different state or department.
Excuse me Officer, I have a stupid Question. "No problem, I've got a stupid answer for you!"

+1. That was my thought too. If the reason was blatant enough, you might have to kiss off any government position.

well...i didn't really get rejected. first was i passed the medical but got put on oral psych review and never heard from ever again. second which is this time...i went for the medical and got put on medical review and was told to get an echocardiogram which cost $500 and I don't have insurance to pay for it...I'm not really rejected...just that I don't have $500 to pay for an exam to pass the medical...I know i'm perfectly healthy and the APD woman keep screwing up with the EKG testing, the pumps didn't stick and kept falling out....i have no hope in them for allowing me pass and get into the academy without any trouble from the APD dept...
