Really bad first impression of my instructor today.

Hi, and a bit of story.

Today was my first day of class for CRJ, and the instructor of 36 years on the force wasted no time showing a bad attitude and being very un-professional.

I said "Good morning Mr. Chapman" as i walked into the class only to receive a faint grunt..literal GRUNT! Tho he had smiles and googly eyes for the annoying white girls in the corner.

About me...

I have three semesters of state college level psychology and a brother that is a paranoid schizophrenic so i can grasp mentally ill folks and people down on their luck, I GET IT no need to make their life worse. I was shocked to hear this instructor continually refer to people in jails as "Animals" and he seemed to encourage silliness as the group of females in the corner through the entire class made silly jokes(after showing us all their folder full of pictures of them doing volunteer parking lot security work)

I was expecting educated people, but all i saw was people with barely a high school education and even one lady asking if they have to do math and English(then ask how can she be an investigator)

Am i wrong to be really annoyed and feeling ripped off? I was expecting an enthusiastic instructor, not a burnt out bitter man with women on his mind. Oh yeah today's course was Criminology, which he called boring and only worth reading if you wanna fall asleep, we get three tests for the entire semester, shows how much he cares.

Please tell me this guy isn't the norm.

For as long as there have been instructors and teachers that have been human beings, there have been instructors and teachers with their own opinions and biases. Just a fact of life. If you don't like the instructor, you don't have to, just study and do well in the course, then don't take future courses with the same instructor. You're not going to agree with the opinions of every boss or coworker in the work force one day either, but that's life.

... you know a lot of them are animals, don't you? I am betting even Mr. Chapman (perhaps lacking a personality and skills in teaching) has a better foundation to make that statement than you do in refuting it. Call it a hunch, but did spend a little more time on the street than you (and I am fairly confident that the term "little bit" is a hell of an understatement).

Educated people eh? I'm sorry, but most of the time small level courses don't have the edumacated types. Typically its filled with the ones that will blow the scholarships and their parents money well before learning anything.

It gets better in the second year though.

Thanks guys for the replies, i'm sorry if i come across in a bad way, i just expected a more professional person. I'm EMT basic certified and the instructors there were top notch, again no offense heh.

Hey Chevy, FWIW, Chief's been schoolin' me for about a month now. Even GD2J said I should listen to him. Have to tell ya, he's a pretty good instructor. As far as a skiier or a rafter, not so much.
