    Question Online University Recommendations?

So I'm about ready to take the plunge and start some schooling. Just not sure on which school(s) to apply to. I live in San Diego and work corrections, so schedule is very sporadic, changing every 3 months. The two main schools that I've read up on are National University and American Military University. Anybody have any insider info on either of these schools???

I researched the accreditation and both seem to check out okay. For the record I'm not interested in majoring in CJ due to the many reasons stated before on these boards. Most likely going to major in History as that is the only subject in higher education that holds any interest of mine. Plus I think it could benefit me after my law enforcement career (be that at age 30 or 50).

History is a fine choice of major.

I don't know anything about National University, but have heard good things about AMU.

Also, check out University of Phoenix, and Columbia College of Missouri. They both have good online programs, from what I understand.

AMU is supposed to be top-notch. I may be biased however, as I am planning on taking classes through them as well.

Worried about accreditation? Take a peek through this:

I have a Master of Public Administration and teach polisci and CJ classes on an adjunct basis. If I get 18 graduate hours in any other disciplines, I can teach freshman and sophomore level classes in that discipline, and the courses will be recognized by SACS, our regional accrediting body.

I will look into the Austin Peay program that you listed.
Roger that & good luck. I originally planned on getting a 4-year psych degree from Penn State for the same "brick & mortar" reasons as you. However, I've now evaluated things from a militaristic standpoint while yours is in the academic realm. APU/AMU is good for the federal government, hence it's good for me.

Of course, what works for one person doesn't work for everyone. I've worked at a college. I understand how pretentious purely academic faculty members can be.

It was nearly a hundred years ago, but I took several history classes by correspondence (pre on line for you youngsters) from the University of Maryland when I was in the Army. They were top notch, at least back then. They were one of the few that would cater to military personnel who couldn't always get assignments back on time.......

I am currently getting a BA in history from AMU. It ain't bad. The price is not bad compared to other schools and most of the teachers I have had are not crazy. I just finished a 15 page paper that kind of kicked my *** but other than the few multiple page papers it hasn’t been too difficult. It helps if you enter the program with a pretty good knowledge of history already; it appears you have the credentials. Cheetos are also a great snack. The End.
