Just wrote the hardest paper ever

One of my CJ classes requires two persuasive research papers on law enforcement related topics of our choice. I wrote the first one on the benefits of Tasers. It was fun and easy, and I received a 100% grade.

Then, our professor drops the bombshell on us, he wanted us to write a persuasive paper on the same topic as our first, but holding the opposite stance of our first. Oh, and it has to be twice the length as our first one. His logic is that 'as managers of organizations we will often times be required to write documents that do not reflect our personal opinion.' Oook. Makes sense I suppose.

So I just finished writing 18 freaking pages about the horrible dangers of abusive police officers Tasing innocent victims. I did a ton of research with the ACLU, Amnesty International, and other  sources. I've never done so much eye rolling while writing a paper, and I honestly felt dirty writing the same kind of slander that boils my blood when I read about it in the news.

So, I'm just ecstatic that after a weekend of writing this nonsense I'm finally done, and I thought I would share my tale with you all. This was one of the hardest papers I've ever had to write!

You mind showing the free loaders how to do research.

I did a paper once on how "Saddam Huissein" was a product of his hostile environment. It had to be controversial and based on recent history. I felt sick when it came back with an "A" stamped on it.

    Hahah

This is literally exactly what I said to my professor as I handed in my paper tonight. I traipsed into the room, plopped the thing down on his desk, and said "I honestly felt sick writing this paper."

He just laughed and said his mission was accomplished if I felt sick. :(

Those are really tough to write, but important as well. I've had to do a number of them in my classes as well through the years.
    (not criminal justice mind you...)

During one particular class, we had to write about gun 'control', at the time I was very anti-gun..but through my research and opening of my mind to the other-side, I changed my views drastically. First paper was personal feelings, then the Prof. dropped the ball on us and told us our final report was based on writing the opposing view.

I am glad I did that.

I wrote one of those for my Intro to Criminal Justice class, I was PRO CCW. After doing the research for that, I was even MORE pro CCW. But the guy who did the against CCW, his arguements were not very well put together. He said "Guns kill people" and "If we put more guns in the hands of people, the crime rate will rise."

I then said, "People kill people" and "Lawabiding citizens are not the ones we have to worry about, it is the gangbangers, they are going to carry no matter how hard our gun laws are" after we were done with that class, he walked up to me and called me "stupid."

I thought that was real mature.

    It's STOOOOOPID...
Jeez, the guy was an idiot...

    :D

    Seriously;
So often people are NOT able to see both sides of the story. I truly feel that an opinion is not valid until both sides are presented.

I've pissed a couple of people off when I have told them that, but when someone is going to engage me in debate, well; than they better darn well know the FACTS of their side of the debate...cause I sure as heck will.

The sad part is, a lot of people not only don't care about both sides, they don't care if THEIR side doesn't make sense. I can't believe I am saying this, but I am glad I and all my other classmates had to take a ton of core requirements in philosophy like ethics, logic, etc. It is hard to make it though 4 years of that stuff without learning that just because you like things one way doesn't mean you are right.
    Always we begin again.

While I was in college, I took a class on the death penalty. I was for capital punishment going into the course, and opposed upon exiting.

My hardest paper had to be one on preventing check fraud. Everyone had a different topic and had to teach a class on it after you finished the paper. The worst part was that the teacher was a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) that owns his own private investigations business and has taught law enforcement. Because I saw him as a genius, I worked on that sucker for weeks and stressed out, only to find out he was an easy grader and I got a 100.

Why don't you introduce yourself in Rap Sheets?

Oh, and it's considered rude to reawaken a dormant thread without good reason.

I thought about this before responding, but I figured a response on a late topic is better than no participation at all. I will introduce myself in Rap Sheets.

The closest thing I've had to do like that is my Criminology paper which I wrote about financing terrorism. I wrote about BCCI and people using charities for evil deeds and people's good hearts for bad things. My Correction's paper was a little tough since I was writing about mental health in prison's. Oh and the ACLU and Amnesty International are fine institutions. The ACLU is so much into the Constitution they've helped Rush Limbaugh and Jerry Falwell. I hate when people bash people for just being lawyers and defending the Constitution. Good grief.

My thesis was a piece of original lab research with human test subjects. It was entitled "A Comparison of the VO2max, Maximum Heart Rate, Maximum Respiratory Exchange Ratio, Maximum Blood Lactic Acid Levels, and Perceived Rate of Exertion between Maximal Effort Treadmill Protocols and Maximal Effort Slideboard Ergometry". It was over 100 pages.

Yes, it was an arse kicker.

Im 1 1/2 years away from having my PSYC degree. If I can't get into the closest law school I am going to go for my Phd in Clinical / forensic PSYC. I have already wrote some strange papers but I know there is way more to come.

    "Guns kill people"

Yes! In the same way that a pencil misspells a word!
