    Computer Forensics Classes

We just had a guest speaker in my Emerging Issues in CJ class who was a computer forensic expert from IRS. The stuff he talked about was really, really interesting but that was the extent of the material my school will cover. Any other computer classes are cross-curriculum and more geared to the Computer Science folks. Are there any colleges out there which offer more computer forensics classes?

Some, but in limited scope. A college/school isn't going to offer the training in cyber forensics won't compare to what is taught by trained law enforcement professionals. The point of a college degree/certificate/diploma is to gain tuition, period. The point of LE training is to train LEOs to work cases, seize and maintain evidence, and basically do the job. Two VERY different missions, and two very different curricula.

Feel free to pursue an education that will LEAN towards cyber forensics, but I can all but guarantee you it wont' be equivalent to the training you'll receive as a LEO for cyber investigations. College/school education can build a foundation, but it's likely the LEO training in cyber forensics will expound a bit further on this, particularly on current legal issues and seizure requirements.

I can't speak for the States, nor can I speak for which is better (LEO experience or Computer Forensics courses).

However, the local technical college over here (Vancouver, Canada) has an excellent Computer Forensics program. It's one of the few in North America I hear, and it's been highly regarded.

Here's the link to the program: (unfortunately I couldn't access it right now, might be down)

And here's a link to a short blurb about the program:

Maybe I'll see you in a few years. ;)
