    Salaries

Some of my night school classmates were wondering out loud which federal agency paid the highest salary. After a lot of back and forth, we agreed that all of the major fed departments probably paid the same. Would anyone know for sure if that is true? Is there one who pays more than the others? What rank or salary would be the maximum a fed can make before having to get into supervising? TIA

Most of us are paid on GS pay scales. They are much like military pay grades, with 10 steps within each grade. In most of the federal agencies, the top journeyman level is a GS13 before you compete for a supervisor slot. As an 1811 (federal criminal investigator with LEAP, you are sitting at about $110k at a GS13-01. You can go up to a 13-10. The exact number may vary, depending on what your locality pay is.

USBP journeyman GS-11 Step 1 + AUO, Nights, Sunday & holiday pay is around $80K.

I've found that most BPA's make what the next higher 1811 makes. So a GS-11 BPA makes what a GS-12 1811 makes. Plus we normally have a much lower cost of living.
