Poly Sci/CJ , Law School, for LE career

    Hi all,

I'm new to the board, and this is my first post. Anyways, I am curious about what you guys think about a PolySci major/ CJ minor combination for a future LE career. Obviously, I know CJ anything won't hurt, but what about Poly Sci? Ultimately, I want to go to Law School, and then eventually join the force or go Federal. It will be 2 years before I even graduate college, so really it's a long ways away, but I still would like to think I am going down the right road. Secondly, will having a law degree be beneficial? I want to get one regardless, but I am wondering if that gives me any bonuses in LE in any way.

    Thanks all!

Police Departments do NOT care what degree you get. Get a degree in whatever interests you, and they will accept it.

Get a degree in what interest you. Police Dept aren't as concerned with the type of degree as let's say fed agencies. I personally wouldn't say they don't care, I'm pretty sure if you had a law degree you would raise some eyebrows. Now if you are considering applying to the FEDs such as OSI, FBI, NASA, DEA, etc... maybe a degree in law, computer science, international relations/political science, finance, accounting, engineering would make you very competitive. There are other sought after areas of study but these are the ones I can think of right now. Yet, even with these degrees you aren't guaranteed anything, it is very competitive out there (local, state and fed agencies). But CITI said it.... get something you enjoy, there are people in police departments w/ degrees in art history and people in the feds w even more general degrees.....

Ditto departments don't care what your degree is as long as you have one. I have a Poli-Sci degree.

Thanks Yall! I appreciate the advice. Everything runs fairly consistent to what people at home have told me. Basically I should do what I like, and do it well! And YES, I do know that LE is very competitive! That's why I want a JD, because NOTHING is guaranteed, that's for damn sure!
