During police academy did anyone have a job? If so where were you working while attending police academy?

We were allowed to keep our extra jobs about 1/2 way through the academy and then informed that we couldn't work them anymore. Keep in mind our academy was a 8-5 deal for 22 weeks sat/sun off. As to who kept their jobs and who stopped working I can't say. Mine was only a 2 day a month deal so it was no great loss to the pocketbook and they cheerfully welcomed me back after academy was over.

My academy is 29 weeks long and you may have a job for the entire duration of the academy.
"Dopers" are people too, you f'n *******.
Mine was a night academy and nearly every person in the class worked full time during the day and we came to class at night. Some weekends as well.
Helen Keller graduated from college with honors. She was blind and deaf. So what's your problem?
There is now way that I would have held a job and pass the academy at the same time. My academy was mon-sat, 0530-1800 sometimes even later.
My parents were kind enough to pay my bills during this time.
I would not have been able to work and go to the academy because of the study pace at the academy. It would have just been too much. Besides, I was fortunate that my department was paying me to learn. Also helped that I was retired military, too. :cool:Originally Posted by PearlEclipse88
Yes, I worked my normal 40 hour a week job, and attended the academy 30+ hours a week.
Needless to say, there wasn't much free time.

Back before KLETC put an end to it, a lot of Kansas LEOs had to work while they were in the academy.
One poor sap in my class went to school all day and had to work til 11 that night at the police dept. He lived about 10 miles from the academy.
I was supposed to work a 12 hour shift on saturdays while I was at the academy.
I managed to get out of about 4 of the 8 weekends.:D
The overtime was nice though.
No extra work here. The academy was an hour and a half from home and the day started with a 0530 PT formation. I was recieving VA education benefits while at the academy though so that made things easier on the wallet.
I'm Addicted to placebo's..... I'd quit, but it wouldnt make any difference.
My academy was full time and I did not work a job. They said we could work however much we wanted as long as we didn't miss class, but they suggested against it. There were a few people in my class that worked part time. One guy I believe actually worked two jobs and something like 20+ hours in a week (our academy was 40+ hrs). Not to stereotype, but it should be no surprise...he's mexican. :D.

In my state, in order to go to the academy you must be employed through a department to even go (unless your a reserve). So you get paid while at the academy.
